It's an old building but very clean and a warm guesthouse.
I stayed in a room on the second floor with a shared bathroom and toilet and a terrace with fans only. The terrace is adjacent to the next building, so there's no view. But you can wash and dry your laundry. There's also a sink there.
It was muggy, so if you're staying in the room during the day, you should have chosen one with air conditioning. But if you're going to choose one with air conditioning, a more modern one might be better.
This place has a nice laid-back atmosphere with the family cooling off in the garden at the entrance. If your room key is too big and you don't want to carry it around while you're out, you can just hang it on a board in the garden (someone in the family will be there and there's a gate).
The wooden floors are relaxing, and the showers and toilets are very clean. Shampoo and body soap are provided. Bath towels are provided. The daughter (should I call her mom?) can speak English, and the mother (should I call her grandma?) can't speak English, but since I'm not good at English, it's easier to understand by body language.
You can stay cheaper if you book through a reservation site than if you go directly. (I don't think this will work if you're good at negotiating)
There's a market right in front of you, so you can eat breakfast there. The night market is also nearby. You can buy beer at the 7-Eleven right there.
It's cheap to take a rottu to the airport and bus terminal, but I didn't know the signs, so I asked a local for directions. If you're on your own, the Anuban Ubon Rachathani School bus stop is within a 10-minute walk of the city bus, which costs 20 baht.

Best place in Ubon
The hostel itself has a garden (with 4 lovely tiny dogs) wich is a common place for all of the guests. It has also a kitchen and some facilities so you can even prepare your own food bought in the market across the street.
In this case we were placed in the wooden house. It was a big thai bed with a fan in the room: simple, backpackers don't ask for more. Shared shower and bathroom downstairs. The price is reasonable, rooms go from 300 bahts on.
Besides the placement, the owner welcomed us as we were family. She helped us with how bus and trains worked, and such an information comming from a local is really helpful in Thailand. She has advice to guide you in the exploration of the city and sorroundings as a local would do.
We planned to stay in Ubon for a night, but since we were so comfortable in this hostel, we ended up stayed for three nights.
