Urban oasis of well-being with a view of the Matterhorn

The Rex offers a blend of classic style enhanced with some modern elements, which together create a truly comfortable atmosphere. Beautiful garden with a cocktail bar and occasional grill events. First-class breakfast, pleasant spa, and very friendly staff make the stay very enjoyable. And then there’s the in-house bakery… it smells and tastes fantastic!

Friendly staff and nice room

We stayed there for two nights and really liked it.
The room was really good, having view to Matterhorn.
The breakfast is outstanding, with the bread of very high quality. We loved it.
Staff are super friendly.
Pick-up service from train station works well.
If I come back to Zermatt, I will stay at this hotel.

Wonderful stay and amazing staff

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at The Rex. Beautiful hotel and the hospitality was outstanding. Such friendly, helpful staff and they all went above and beyond to make our stay amazing. The room was clean and comfortable. Only snag the workman starting work outside our bedroom window at 7am every morning, but that couldn’t be helped.

Excellent modern hotel. Great location and value

We stayed at the Rex for 3 nights while visiting Zermatt for hiking at the beginning of the summer season (mid June) when the city is still quiet. The hotel just re-opened for the season. It’s a 10-minute easy walk from Zermatt’s train station (and station to Gornegratt). The hotel provides an electric shuttle bus service that we used- we called them from the Tourist Information office next to the train station where the pick up point is. We found the Rex to be modern, spacious, inviting spaces, and a lovely front manicured yard with lounge chairs, sun umbrellas, and a bar where you can chill after a long day of hiking and enjoy a drink and some food. The breakfast was excellent (buffet) and you can also order special dishes (such as pancakes) at no extra cost. We also much enjoyed their other restaurant for dinner (The Stockhorn, highly recommended for meat lovers). Staff was very courteous. Our room was spacious, super-clean, nicely equipped with what you would expect to find in a high-level hotel. It’s nice that they have USB and microUSB ports in the room for charging, in case your charger doesn’t fit the standard Swiss socket. In our room there was no air conditioning but leaving the window open worked well. Not sure about hot days in August. My wife much enjoyed the swimming pool and large Jacuzzi after long days of hiking. Location is great, only a few minute walk to the main ‘pedestrian street’, a 10-minute walk to the funicular station leading to Sonnegga, and a 10-minute walk to the cable car station to go to the Glaciar Paradise Station . We really enjoyed the Rex and have only good things to say. We definitely recommend.

A perfect place for our Honeymoon!

My wife and I spent the first part of our honeymoon in Switzerland at the rex and the experience was phenomenal. The room, the staff, the food, and everything were top-notch. We had a great view of the Matterhorn even on the first floor, and every morning we enjoyed the great breakfast they offered. The bakery was a standout part of the stay, and the croissants were a perfect way to start the day off before skiing. We were a little worried about how far it would be from the main part of Zermatt and how close we would be to the ski lifts, but it was perfectly walkable and, in our opinion, just the right distance from the main street to avoid a lot of secondhand noise from après and the pubs. The rex was a great value for everything it offered, and if we'd known how much we would love Zermatt and the rex, we would've spent our entire trip there.
