Perfect for a digital detox!

This is a great location to get away from it all and enjoy peace, quiet and nature, and with only 7km of dirt road to navigate it’s still very accessible. The host Bronwyn is lovely, very helpful and friendly (and can also provide wonderful eggs from her chickens at a very reasonable price). If WiFi is needed you can access it at the farmhouse but once my essential messages has been sent I then enjoyed a 4 day digital detox - bliss. The cottage (Western) was well equipped (a bigger fridge with a freezer would be a bonus for longer stays) with tasteful decor and an excellent selection of reading materials. I’d have preferred it a little lighter inside (painted white perhaps) but that’s just my personal preference. The cottage design helps it stay cool, even in the height of summer, and the quiet overhead fan in the bedroom supports a good night’s sleep. The deck had lovely views and the hammock was perfect for whiling away the afternoon! Loved the river and swam every day. Thanks for a fabulous stay, we will be back :)

PERFECT GETAWAY FROM CITY-LIFE

We were fortunate to hear about Riverview Cottages from friends or we would have never known about this beautiful hidden gem of a place. The eco-friendly cottage, the resident dog Jumbo (small Jack Russell terrier) and the magnificent surroundings were a perfect getaway from the city and the noise. Next time we will try to make time for a longer stay

Wonderful accommodation in breathtaking scenery

We can agree with all those who praise this accommodation to the fullest. We were here for two nights, enjoyed every hour and would have liked to stay even longer in the end. If you are looking for seclusion and peace in nature, want to spend half a day on the terrace singing birds and enjoying a wonderful mountain view, want to hike on well marked paths through the reddish rock and the aloe vegetation and like to swim in the river or canoe, this is the place for you. The cottage is lovingly, stylishly and beautifully furnished. The hosts have thought of everything you need and are extremely friendly and helpful.

What a beautiful find! WOW!

We were due to stay in Oudtshoorn for the weekend but were disappointed with the accommodation we found. A quick call to Bronwyn to find out if they anything available. Lucky for us!!
We stayed in The Old School House for two nights. What a treat: great linen, properly kitted out house. Loved the books!! Just a perfect little getaway with amazing views and river.
Jock was such a gentleman and Luke (I think) the Black cat made us feel right at home!

Beautiful cottages, nice views great succulents

This was our second visit and we enjoyed our stay as much as the first time. I like the cottage very much. Nice kitchen area and beautiful covered patio with river views. Very quiet at night. There are 3 trails (some are in neighboring farms) that guests can take. They all have interesting plants especially succulents such as Aloes, Gasterias, Elephant bush etc. The intermediate length trail has beautiful views of the river and you can start this trail right from your cottage. Internet reception is not good but that is a small detail considering the beauty of the location. Friendly owners and a very friendly pet dog named Jock (as the famous character in the South African classic "Jock of the bush veldt"). The road to the cottages from the main road is not paved, best to go slowly since there are some blind curves. Not in bad shape just best to go slow. A great location worth visiting for 2 or more days.
