A nightmare
I do not recommend this place at all. I rented here over the winter months and it was a nightmare. Had I not been tied to a financially binding rental agreement, I would have been out of there in a flash. The WiFi was terrible (you had to basically have your device glued to the kitchen wall for coverage), and as I work from home, I had to access WiFi elsewhere. The supposedly ‘very expensive’ bed sunk in the middle and was extremely uncomfortable. The couches were so stained, I had to cover them during the duration of my stay. These may have been easier to tolerate if not for the extremely belligerent, aggressive and verbally abusive landlady. It was not possible to have a civil conversation with her, without it being blown way out of proportion, with lengthy, ongoing text messages. On the day that I finally moved out, she was in full unfiltered form, insulting my standards of hygiene, painstakingly looking for faults, and being verbally vile. Note, I had cleaned the apartment even though she had included a clean-up fee in her rental agreement. She then bought another fridge with a portion of my deposit money, because there were slight stains which she decided were ‘curry stains’. If there was a minus rating, this place would get it.

Host became aggressive & condescending when a family member came inside to pick us up. Threatened us with the POLICE. Then the booking site informed me that i am being charged an extra R300.00 for having unapproved guest. We left without asking for refund of balance because she was so unpleasant. I placed my review on the booking site and she replied by accusing us (my sister & I) of having men stay overnight, of going out at 4a.m. of entertaining men illegally and continually misbehaving ! She is pure evil!!! I am 66 & my sister 75, her accusations are defamatory!!! She should be shut down.
Studio Garden was a sand pit. Furniture and fittings were tired, wobbly. No sealed storage for food and crockery. 3 guards dogs barking at the windows. Linen and towels were old, Grey instead of white. No laundry or ice making facility. No emergency lighting. Mattress was too soft for 2 people. Shower cubicle was covered in mould. Our only access was by a huge security gate which rattled and would be noisy early hours or late at night. NO off-street parking, contrary to advert. Booking site says stove but you get 1 single desktop hotplate. Fridge is a wine cooler with no ice making facility. No air con or fan.
It was not a welcoming experience. Avoid if you expect a decent level of presentation. This has taught me one lesson READ THE REVIEWS BEFORE BOOKING !!!

Terrible and unprofessional experience
AVOID! We booked our stay for two nights, and were informed that our check-in time was 2pm. Once we arrived and got inside the gate (which took 15 minutes as the owner wasn’t answering the doorbell or her phone), there was another couple in the AirBNB. It was a very awkward encounter, as we both didn’t expect each other. The owner had double-booked us. We left and booked another AirBNB. Later on, we got a bunch of rude messages from the owner saying check-in time was only later and we trespassed and what we did was “illegal”. I asked her kindly for a refund, and she kept making excuses and blaming us for her mistake of double-booking. Eventually she blocked me and basically stole our money. DONT trust Nicole or this “AirBNB”.

Avoid like the plague
BEWARE of Villa Barry in Hout Bay ! We booked this property via an online site and had to cancel within 24 hours after we made the booking due to unforeseen circumstances that were out of our control. We were very transparent with regards to our situation and the booking had a 2 day FREE cancellation policy. We let the host know on Wednesday (2 days prior) and she ended up charging my card for the full amount - even after explaining our reasons for cancelling which was totally out of our hands. When I messaged her this morning about the card verification issue we had she said I must call her tomorrow because she was at a wedding. The host also only let us know after the booking was confirmed that there was only off-street parking available, when the ad clearly states on-site parking. Huge issue as we've already had all 4 wheels stolen off our car when it was parked on the street in the same area (we used to be Hout bay residents ourselves) No communication or trying to negotiate, just blocked calls and numbers. I thought it was perhaps a language barrier but alas, she is just plain rude. Yes, we know there are policies in place, but considering the timing and the circumstances, a little bit of understanding would have gone a long way. The booking agents even called her to say they will waiver the commission fees so she can refund us but she refused. They agreed that even though their policies are strict, hosts can always make exceptions. Clearly she needs to spend more time with her Buddha's in her garden.What a terrible experience. I should have checked the reviews on other booking sites before i booked this as it would have saved me a lot of frustration and money. I have now opened up a case of fraud and contacted my attorneys for further action. AVOID!

Awful experience
I would never recomend this place. Host is rude and does not make you feel welcome. She is a condesending person.
My sisters stayed the, one from Switzerland and the other from Australia, they had the most awful experience. I picked them up at 5.30 am for a walk on the beach. When we returned at 07h00 we had a cup of coffee. The host then came knocking saying we woke her. She threatened us with the police if it happened again. We were not noisy.
She is a horrible host. Steer clear....
