Guest in a private house
Ruksani, the lady of the house, offers cooking classes that I can absolutely recommend. Her husband used to shop with us at the market in Kandy and took a lot of time to show us all the exotic spices, foreign vegetables and fresh herbs. Thanks for that.
On the way home, he also drew our attention to a temple that is particularly close to his heart – because he went to Buddhist Sunday school there as a child. The cave temple dates back to the Anuradhapura period and the murals depicting Buddha's life story are incredibly luminous and amazingly well preserved.
We were there completely alone, and the landlord shared his knowledge from the temple school with us.
This was a very special experience for us.
Aur Blanc is a homestay about seven kilometers outside of Kandy, located on a hillside near the Botanical Garden. Staying there means you are not just a guest in an accommodation — you are truly a guest in a Sri Lankan family.

Good time in Kandi!
The hosts gave us an excellent welcome, with the right balance between presence and respect for privacy. The small cooking class of the second evening was a very nice moment of conviviality.
