Value for money in exxy Singapore

I read with some trepidation some of the negative reviews prior to my stay. However my stay was pleasant and in line with what I had expected.
This is an expensive city, and paying AUD60 for a private room is extremely good value. There are some elements of the self check in system that's a bit weird, and perhaps need to be improved upon.
I also feel security could be enhanced. The front door lock doesn't work, and there really should be a security person keeping a watch.

It was a FAIR stay

I booked without reading the reviews from all sites which was a bad move. I must say I came to Singapore with fear. So I decided to pack all essentials (extral tissue rolls, pillow covers, blankets, bath towels and toiletries, three pronged plug adaptor— which was all needed bec the hostel did not provide for these amenities) except for the towels which we didnt use bec it looked dirty and sheets and blankets were sparse. I really had Zero expectations.
Aircon was super cold, yes there’s mold in the walls, air was stale which we remedied with peppermint spray, no tv, no phone, no toiletries. But there’s hot water from the shower, running toilet and water, a bed to sleep in and I cannot demand anything anymore. There’s no front desk except for a table and clipboard with your booking number. Go up to your designated room which is opened for you and you can find your key there.
I recommend this for solo travelers, friend (2 persons) travelling in a budget, people who look for sleeping in only, definitely not for couples or families.

Mouldy Room & Terrible Service

All rooms are mouldy, just different levels of mouldiness. The room booked was one without windows, and possibly due to lack of air circulation, the whole room was filled with mould on the walls. We are appalled at how the owner could have still let the room out for stay when it was visibly in an unhealthy state to stay & sleep in. Staff claimed that he couldn't speak English, so be prepared your queries/requests would probably not be entertained since they couldn't understand you, not unless you speak Malay. Had requested for a change of room, however, due to the same type of room being fully booked, the next room available for change would be the one with windows but at an upgrade cost. It's only after lengthy and much reasonings, did we finally get our room changed at no cost as this was at no fault of ours. Changed room was much better but still had some smell.
** staff may not be always around to assist unless you are "lucky" enough to bump into one. And, if you are "lucky again", he may or may not be able to connect you to another staff/management for you should you run into trouble. So, your trouble may be never ending... ... just be prepared.
It's a NEVER RETURN stay for this.

Worst

This place has Zero security, one of the very bad experience i had, there is no receptionist , you go, check your name on list, check room number, go to your rooms as they are open, on ground floor its written “ Send your Passport copies on ***** number, DO NOT CALL US FOR ANYTHING” , in room its written “YOUR WEBSITE HAS CHARGED YOU SERVICE CHARGE , WE DID NOT SO DO NOT EXPECT US TO CLEAN YOUR ROOM”
While check out “LEAVE YOUR KEY IN ROOM AND GO THAT WOULD BE DONE” , i stayed there 3 nights for exam and i left and i never submitted passport copies even,
There was power trip in night on entire 4th floor, and no one was available to help us, we foreigners went out and call police for help and then after 1 hour someone came and helped us with that !!
So its really bad experience , i am not going there again and i would not recommended anyone to go either !!!

Got what I paid

Don't expect too much with this price in Singapore. Price consider good since the location is just a stone throw away from Farer Park MRT Station. I'll rate 5 out of 10 stars about the cleanliness of the hostel. Overall is good except the cleanliness. Atmosphere was good because it's self check in and I seldom met people during my stay at this hostel.
