Disgusting breakfasts
Hotel "Lena" is located in the very center of the city. The rooms are clean, cleaning is timely. Friendly staff. I have stayed at this hotel several times (convenient location). But there is a problem with breakfast. First there was a buffet, the simplest set of products and not the best quality. When checking in in June 2023, the administrator announced to me at the reception that he had a new chef and excellent breakfasts. And indeed, the breakfast was wonderful, very tasty and varied. This made me very happy!!! But already in August 2023, the breakfast was much worse than in June (apparently the cook was changed). For myself, I decided that I would no longer stay at Lena and in February 2024 I rented a room at Sterkh (this is a neighboring building). Imagine my indignation that breakfasts were held at the Lena Hotel (Sterkh is undergoing renovations). The breakfast situation has become even worse than it was in August. For the fifth day in a row, they serve rice porridge, fried potatoes in rancid oil, and alternating nageets with sausage. Instant coffee. I don’t understand where the administration of the Lena Hotel is looking??? They are losing guests because of disgusting breakfasts!!!

Appalling
This very dated hotel (if you can call it that) is awful. The room we stayed in was totally dilapidated, with wallpaper literally hanging off the walls and furniture held together with sellotape. Breakfast in the Sherlock Holmes bar was shocking - nothing was edible from the very small selection of food. Had to go down to reception to ask for towels and toilet paper. Hotel from outside looks like an old office block. Give this a miss if at all possible.

It worked for us
We stayed six nights. Reception helpful but rather remote. Room recently redecorated and satisfactory. Bathroom good. Breakfasts not great. Hotel very central. Building work was in progress on our floor during our stay so there was some daytime noise. Should we return to Yakutsk we would probably use this hotel again. it represented good value.

Great vision of the real Yakutia from this hotel
Yakutsk is the coldest major city on earth, arriving there is not easy, so you tend to treasure the creature comforts you receive when you arrive there. This hotel is a very typical classic style Russian hotel which is set up to help you get through the extremely harsh environment.
Arriving there from the airport we were quickly welcomed and sent up to our rooms (statistics say 88 nationalities live and work in Yakutia so they're quite used to foreigners) - the rooms have all the basic anemities, water, toiletries, etc, one thing I can say is you definitely can't fault the heating ! It works ! I took a "luxury" which is basically their version of a suite, it is definitely a good investment since you can remain within the warm confines of your room and do some work instead of having to go to other facilities. The temperature does vary dramatically within the building, in December you only go out if you dare ! -49C temperatures are the norm (lots of fun if you're prepared for it). Yakutsk is one of those places that you will remember for a lifetime. In winter they have limited daylight hours and the pollution hangs in the air due to the fact that no one can quite turn off their cars (they'll freeze very quickly if they do). Once you're out of the city through it's an amazing experience. The food there is nice, but very Russian, Russian food tends to be quite rich for the unprepared palate, but it will definitely leave you warm on the inside ! Staff is quite friendly, some speak English others understand it, but you'll definitely be able to communicate with them. Beds and furniture are old and hard but, that's Russia...

Absolute miserable dump!
What they charge for a "standard" room is practically criminal. The room was in terrible condition. Paint was peeling off of the walls. The beds were basically a piece of wood with a 2 inch foam pad on top. I'm not exaggerating when I say the place looked like it hadn't been touched since the 70s. For roughly a mere $20 more per night the Sterkh hotel located right next door offers a fully renovated room with air conditioning (important in the summer there). In short, do not stay here!
