Outstanding service from Page at reception.
We had a wonderful stay at this hotel and on reception Page, was incredibly helpful dealing with our check in before our sons graduation. Thankyou Page for your help.

Nope!
No. Currently under renovation. Has no air conditioning. Looks like it was decorated in the 60's. Carpet is gross. Headboard is peeling. Just no.

Mixed bag
I’ve stayed in Exeter lots but not at this hotel for quite a while. I find it is in a strange place; the budget hotels like Leonardo and Holiday Inn Express are more modern at a better price point for what you get, Premier Inn you know what you’re getting but post-pandemic they can be ever so overpriced, whilst if you’re going up a notch then Hotel Indigo and Hotel du Vin really do offer the best experience. I stayed more recently at the Mercure Rougemont, which was frankly awful, but I already knew this hotel was better. Nevertheless the Mercure Southgate is somewhere in the middle.
Parking was ample, a little pricey at £16 for 24 hours (their website said £15 so they need to update that) which honestly all car parking in Exeter is absolutely extortionate and the council-owned ones are the most expensive and worst maintained so avoid those. It wasn’t actually 24 hours though, so at reception they had to extend my parking (for free) as I planned to use the full 24 hours - that was done with no problems though.
Reception was a lovely greeting, the hotel was well presented and clean.
Room was on the smaller size even though it was as Privilege Room. Apart from two bottles of water, two cans of fizzy and a bottle of orange juice, I didn’t really know what made it an upgraded room. The mattress was poor and lumpy, the room itself really needs a real refurb as the carpets and chair were stained, the furniture battered and the paint work really shoddy. However the room and the shower room were clean.
I used the pool, sauna and jacuzzi. The whole area had the feel of a council leisure centre, it’s quite dated and run down with rust everywhere and a whiff of sewage or mould. The staff were friendly there but it really needs some work. If you want spa facilities they pick Hotel du Vin or Hotel Indigo.
I popped to the bar after a swim, they had Devon cider on tap, nice relaxed atmosphere. The you g lady serving really seemed like she wasn’t interested and certainly not in any sort of small talk. When I left the young man behind the bar was much more engaging and enlivened.
Breakfast was a very good spread which was well presented, tastes good and prompt service cleaning away. The breakfast room was perfectly pleasant and I enjoyed that.
Would I go back? Perhaps not in a rush. It does find itself in that off middle place and I think that for what I’m looking for Holiday Inn or Leonard at one end or Hotel du Vin or Hotel Indigo at the other are a better bet.
Nevertheless I enjoyed my stay which I thought was reasonable so that’s why I rate it four. Perhaps if not for the availability of a swimming pool and the breakfast it would’ve scored a three. I know that it is not positioned as a luxury hotel within the branding of Accor although I’d like to get the impression it is upgraded, the hotel really does need a refurbishment in the rooms and spa area which contrast with the reception, bar and restaurant.

Good but could do better!
All very good. Would go back but... I know hotels have to appeal to a wide audience but this place is bland. No splash of colour, no individuality.
If you like beige you're in for a treat!
The plus side... Great food and drink prices for a hotel. Lovely staff. Clean and comfy rooms.

Another Great Stay
We stayed for 4 nights over the past week for graduation. Both stays were good.
There was a problem with air con on the first visit but Brigid Murphy helped us out with better located rooms for the second stay so we were quite comfortable.
We regularly stay at this hotel because it does everything well. In particular, the staff are always happy and helpful.
We have a further 3 years visiting Exeter and will continue to use this hotel. I recommend you do too.
