get your head down after a theatre visit
My wife and I only stayed one night at this hotel. We needed a base, somewhere to get our heads down for the night, as we were going to the theatre and didn’t have time to get home afterwards. This hotel used to carry the name of a well-known chain, and I’d heard some interesting stories about it. We were however pleasantly surprised on entering the lobby by its airy spacious feel. The hotel looks quite small and cramped from the outside as it has a sort of triangular shape to it. The staff were friendly and professional, and we were quickly checked in. As we are both blind, a member of staff asked us if we would like him to take us to our room which made life much easier.
I’d booked a family room as, at the time of booking, only twin family rooms were available. The family room has two bunk beds and a double bed. It is quite a big room with a wooden floor and plenty of hanging space in a cabinet for those things like dresses or evening suits. On either side of the bed there is a glass shelf which goes right back to the wall so there is no gap for things to fall down the back of it. There is also a double plug which has a USB a socket.
We found the bed very comfortable and had a good night sleep which was very pleasing because the Hotel itself is situated right alongside the railway line at the back of Cardiff Central Station. When you come out of the Station on the city side, it is directly on your right.
The ensuite bathroom had a walk-in shower with a Raine head plus a small head which could be used as a handheld washer. There were plenty of towels on shelves and body wash, shampoo and conditioner were also provided.
The hotel is situated within walking distance of all Cardiff’s main amenities. It’s five minutes walk from the millennium Stadium and about ten minutes from the Cardiff Castle. The main shopping centre is also just a few minutes walk away. It’s a perfect location if you just want to stay for one or two nights and do something in Cardiff.
The hotel advertised a buffet breakfast, and you are never quite sure what you are likely to get. However, this Hotel had a good spread of hot and cold items plus the service in the dining room was excellent. There were two members of staff on duty, which is a definite improvement on some chains which now only have one person helping customers.
The big negative for this hotel from a blind person’s perspective is that the air-conditioning system in the rooms is worked from a touchpad rather than a Control which has buttons that can be felt. There is absolutely no way that a totally blind person could operate the air conditioning in the rooms. It badly needs another way to be able to adjust the aircon, such as from your phone.
Let’s face it, although I’m sure that if asked the staff will always come and do it for you, you are not going to get up in the early hours of the morning, go Padding down to reception just to get someone to come up and change the temperature or fan strength.
Finally, it has to be said, that if you are a train spotter this Hotel will be heaven for you. Just make sure you get a room at the back which is on the first floor or above.

Brilliant value for money.
Had the advertised multistory car park (behind the hotel) been open and not fenced off with no way of getting into it, that would have helped enormously.

Good 3 star hotel, few minutes,walk away from the Cardiff central station and the city centre. We have no complaints about this hotel where we stayed 3 nights. Room regularly cleaned snd nicely air conditioned. Would stay here again if in Cardiff.

First time I have stayed at this property under Marriott, largely the same as previously, just with minor cosmetic changes such as new light fixtures/soft furnishings. The air con unit wasn't working but this was resolved well by reception (some old air con units require replacement, windows don't open). Some of the hotel is looking a bit worse for wear with surfaces scuffed. The tv reception was also hit and miss. Modern hotel but needs some investment for the guest experience. Staff couldn't have been more helpful and professional.
