Stay was fine, but a bit old fashioned. Useful for a quick stopover if you’re not staying in the room too much.

Not what it used to be

When we stayed here a few years ago it was a Best Western hotel with bar and dining. The hotel appears to be under new ownership now, so no reception but check-in details were to be emailed to me, but weren't. A phone call got me the details. Our room was not bad, comfortable bed, well decorated and quiet. We were here for the races, as were many of the other guests. I would have thought that when the town was busy, they could have opened the bar, but no. No breakfast either. Having dining and bar options oavailable when there are events in town is something to consider.

Laigate Hotel

Awful experience, self check in no parking even though it says free parking then got locked out .....not only ones no codes sent to other guests for self check in

I felt unsafe in this hotel

I am writing this review after giving the hotel more than a week to apologise for the poor service. This hotel has no staff on site. My room door would not lock on leaving. it took over an hour for the hotel to admit the lock was broken but still suggested I should leave my belongings in the unlocked room when I went out. The front door of the hotel was not locked either. I am recently widowed and travelling alone so was very dismayed to hear this suggestiuon in view of recent news stories about strangers in hotel rooms. Finally it was suggesed I pack up my stuff and move it to another room while I went out and retrieve it when I returned. This involved a long walk with all my luggage for a week's stay in Yorkshire. When I returned to retire to bed the curtains would not meet in the middle so I felt overlooked by other rooms; the window would not open and the temperature was in the middle 20sC. In the morning there was no shower gel in the dispenser so I had to climb out of a wet bath to find my own gel. I wanted to watch the news while I dressed but the TV was still on factory setttings and needed a passcode to set it up. I would not recommend this hotel on any level. I am very disappointed not to have heard from them as more than once they promised to return my call. I am still waiting.
