Beautiful hotel in a fantastic location
My husband and I have just returned from a wonderful long weekend in Amsterdam, and Hotel Estherea was the perfect base for our stay.
The location is excellent, with many of Amsterdam's main sights and attractions within easy walking distance. Amsterdam Centraal Station is only around a 15-minute walk away, or just two tram stops if you prefer.
The hotel itself is absolutely beautiful and spotlessly clean. Every member of staff we encountered was friendly, attentive and welcoming, making us feel well looked after throughout our stay. The breakfast selection was excellent, with plenty of choice, and we particularly appreciated the complimentary hot drinks, flavoured water, biscuits and cake available in the lounge throughout the day, a lovely touch that was regularly replenished.
Before our arrival, we upgraded to a canal view room. Our room, on the fifth floor, was bright, clean, comfortable and tastefully furnished. The only slight disappointment was the canal view itself. As we were on the top floor, there was only one relatively small window, and we had to lean out to properly see the canal and city. I did ask whether it was possible to move to a lower floor, but unfortunately the hotel was fully booked.
That said, this was only a minor disappointment in what was otherwise an exceptional stay. If booking a canal view room, I would perhaps ask if it's possible to be allocated a room on one of the lower floors, where we noticed the rooms have larger or multiple windows overlooking the canal. Personally, I'm not sure I'd pay the supplement again unless that could be guaranteed.
Overall, Hotel Estherea is a fantastic hotel with outstanding staff, a great location and wonderful attention to detail. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to return.

A charming hotel
The hotel is absolutely charming and lives up to all whimsical pictures! It’s so refreshing to go someone where that is not just boring, minimalist grey. The location is also excellent, near the 9 streets area, lots of lovely bars, cafes and shops to explore from your doorstop. All the staff are really lovely and welcoming, there’s even a complimentary snack and coffee station with is a lovely touch. The only real drawback is the size of the rooms, although beautifully decorated and with the view of the canal, our room was very small, especially. If we had had more luggage I think we would have struggled!

Lovely Hotel for Families
Wonderful hotel! We had interconnected rooms for our family of 4. The rooms were very nice and spacious. Loved the large bathrooms with soaking tub. The location of the hotel was perfect and we walked to all of the main sites. Breakfast was lovely with a large selection of wonderful, fresh foods. The snacks throughout the day in the lobby were an added treat that our kids enjoyed. I would would definitely stay here again and will recommend to others.

Completely and Utterly in Love with Hotel Estherea

Lovely Hotel and Location, Terrible Service
The hotel is beautiful and whimsical, with lovely finishes and attention to detail. It feels like walking into a scene from “Alice in Wonderland”, and the location is terrific… right on a canal that is surprisingly quiet, with little road or late night noise.
The reason for my 3 stars really has to do with the service. From the get-go, nearly all the staff we encountered and engaged with was kind, but incompetent or indifferent. They lost one of our bags that we had checked in earlier (with our other four suitcases that were located together). Pretty much every time we had a question or request of the multiple front desk staff, there was no definitive answer, it was useless or they took no interest in helping us.
The oddest thing about our experience was how prevalent cleaning supplies and activities were. At both check-in and check-out, housekeeping staff was vacuuming the lobby so guests were stepping over the cords and personnel. Every day (and all hours) we saw the vacuum and cleaning supplies next to the elevator. Of course we understand the housekeeping staff works hard and needs access to their equipment, it was just surprising that it was so visible in a luxury hotel. I had also inquired two weeks prior to check-in about a third bed being added to our room (as we had reserved it). It was confirmed as such and yet it was not made up and I had to flag down a housekeeper to do it upon arrival.
One other small thing - but that was annoying - were the glasses in the complimentary lounge area. The water and cookies were lovely, but for the coffee machine, the glasses got so hot and lacked a handle so I nearly burned my fingers while sipping my drink. I did ask for a takeaway cup but was told the hotel doesn’t allow them. Ok fine, how about a tea cup or mug for hot drinks and glasses for water?! Nothing fancy, just a useful vessel for tea or coffee!
All in all, the hotel itself is beautiful and fun in its decor, but for the aforementioned reasons, we won’t be returning.
