I stayed with my two kids (teenages) in early August. The staff are super helpful and nice. The room is clean and beds are comfortable. The room has no AC, but a fan is ready in the room before we check in and is good enough for us to have good sleep.

Helpful kind staff, beautiful street. Everything is walkable. Close to museums and shopping around vondelpark! Lovely garden rooms. Quiet.

Location is great to explore the city

Really nice hotel in a great location! We loved spending time in the hotel back patio. We appreciated the authentic feel of the place. The staff were very friendly and accommodating.
It was a great place to stay in Amsterdam!

Worst travel experience ever

I know many great places, hotels, and people in Amsterdam, where I go frequently, but the hotel Alexander was by far my worst experience. Where should I start? I booked a room at the Hotel Alexander months in advance, directly with the hotel, to ensure a pleasant stay for my daughter’s birthday. I very clearly requested—twice—a room upstairs. Upon arrival, the receptionist informed us that our (creepy/noisy) room was downstairs with view on pedestrians’ feet, for more than €500 per night (please see enjoy the attached pictures). There was no compensation offered and no time to find another hotel that day, so we were effectively stuck.
We managed to move to another hotel for the second night, but this caused significant inconvenience for me and my daughter. Hopefully, this review will be useful to others.

Thank you for writing in such detail, even though we are sorry the experience was so far from what you had planned and looked forward to. We do want to share a bit more context. For every room category, we provide photos of the actual rooms guests can expect, so the room you received should reflect what was shown during booking. We also state clearly on our website that while we are always happy to take preferences for a specific room or floor into account, Hotel Alexander is a small hotel in a monumental building where every room is unique, and we are therefore unable to guarantee specific requests under any circumstances.
We also want to mention that pricing during your stay was significantly affected by high citywide demand due to the Harry Styles concert taking place in Amsterdam that weekend, which likely explains the room rate you saw.
That said, we understand entirely why arriving to a room different from what you had requested, especially for your daughter's birthday, left you feeling stuck and let down. The way the situation was handled at the desk should have been better, and we are sorry it was not. We are taking this seriously and looking into it internally.
We appreciate you sharing this with us, and we hope you will consider giving Hotel Alexander another chance under different circumstances.

3 star hotel with 5 star service, the staff made you feel special and always went beyond their normal duty to help in any way. They help us with a taxi service to and from the airport which was a good price. They kept our luggage safe as we had an evening flight. they were always happy and greeted you with a smile. We came as guest but left as friends. We are definitely coming back. The hotel is also in a perfect location to everything. Thank you
