Superb place, well worth the slight detour from the state highway

We broke our journey from Central Otago to Christchurch with a night at The Waimate Lodges. The place was superb, and I wish more lodging in NZ was like it. Our en suite room (in the convent rather than in the adjacent standalone motel units) was comfortable, immaculate, and tastefully decorated, with a great bed and an excellent shower. It was also warm, and the location of the lodges was an easy stroll from the main street (which had the associated Waimate Hotel and Waimate Bakery, which were also outstanding). The proprietor was friendly and helpful without being intrusive, and the place seemed particularly well run. Our room was also excellent value.

The place to stay in Waimate

Really impressed by our unit at Waimate Lodges. Very nicely presented, nice and modern, everything you need is here. Super close to town. The fresh baked bread loaf was an unexpected nice touch and enjoyed for breakfast. Hope to return again.

Great stay

These are great wee units with everything you need.
So clean and new and the hosts were so lovely.
We had a beautiful loaf of bread from the local bakery waiting for us on our arrival.
I’d stay again and keen to try the main building next time which is a converted convent.
