Lovely Renovated Hotel in the Middle of Town

Stumpers was recently renovated. They did a lovely job. We had a basic queen room. It was small, but had everything one would expect in a well run economical hotel. The room was immaculate, had a small fridge & tea kettle plus a comfortable bed. I don't think there was AC. We didn't need it to be cooler, but did use the provided fan to give us some air circulation
The hotel is smack dab in the middle of the town. It is walking distance to any of the restaurants, the beach, the stores or any other business in town. There is a good restaurant in the hotel which is open for all the meals Free parking is right out the front door. It is a two story building. There is no lift, so request the ground flow if a flight of stairs is a problem.
We had a pleasant stay and would not hesitate to return of in Hokitika.

Convenient location and basic accommodation

Stayed one night in a Premium Studio - Super King which was an accessible room.
Wouldn’t stay again.
Value for money breakfast in the restaurant. Friendly staff.
Served the purpose for the night. Not premium. Very basic. Chairs should be thrown out (see pic). No place to put anything down in the bathroom. Used the provided shower stool. Light and noise comes from the in-connected door.

Horrible

The worst accommodation we have ever had anywhere in the world. The room was so small we could not open our suitcases. Entry was via a back staircase that was very narrow and made it difficult to get luggage upstairs. I definitely made a mistake when booking this room. Never again.

Budget friendly good experience

We needed a quick find and picked Stumpers because of economics and only being one night. Rooms are clean with a great shower. Bedding and bed was great and it had basic amenities such as fridge and kettle. We were in room 8 and would have like to open our window a bit more than was allowed due to an obstruction. Has AC but we hardly used it. Also it was quiet and staff were helpful.

Really, REALLY bad

1) being told at check in that the receptionist was very busy so I need to make it quick to check in. I'm sorry for bothering you! - a bit of a theme at this place when l've gone back and read other reviews.
2) the REALLY loud banging noise in our room every few minutes all afternoon and evening - l'd have complained about it to try to get it rectified but see point 1
3) being told at lunch in an extremely rude manner when asking for mayonnaise for my fries that the waitress is busy serving other customers and I need to wait... this was before point 1 happened... not a good omen but we'd pre-booked the room. How about asking when you delivered the food like every other restaurant on earth.
As a Kiwi from the South Island visiting after a number of years overseas to visit my family and show my partner the West Coat I was really embarrassed.
