The YMCA is better in amenities and pricing than any other accommodation in Auckland

The staff are kind and helpful.
The facilities have every amenity one needs including free gym if you book 5 nights or more at a time.
Full kitchen to cook.

Safe and warm. Plenty to compliment. Cozy and secure.

Location is handy to both the heart of the city but also the K Rd scenery. Bus stops are right by the entry to the Hostel, very practical for non-drivers. Atmosphere/Vibe is chill, secure, safe and warm. I stayed in a single room with a shared bathroom, it is everything you need when you just need a roof over your head. The heater, desk, closet and different lighting options made it homely and easy to keep tidy. I took advantage of their book 5 nights, pay for 4, top notch value here at the YMCA. Oh the showers have too much pressure and make high pitched screeeeech noises so I don't use level 1 showers :) I just use another levels female showers.
They even have straighteners in the bathrooms. Dining area is great with a small library and notice board. There was a fair but of noise from the fire station + police cars + greys ave residents. In the hostel, only one night there were other guests being noisy.
Unfortunately my room was next to the cleaners laundry, so all day, I had to handle the sound of the two washing machines and dryers going. Other guests would use that same laundry at night but not often enough for me to be bothered.
Service and staff were approachable, friendly and one lady in particular was always more than happy to help and good to chat to, which helped me feel less alone for a bit.
Oh! The ice cream chiller by the front door, I swear I had 6, so tempting! Same goes for the vending machines. They are well placed and inviting haha they would've made a small wage; $6 everytime I had a chocolate craving, which was A LOT.
Place was clean as, maybe just a spring clean on each floor e.g. the curtains had mould, the walls needed to be wiped down but other than that; clean as and the linen! So soft! Bed was comfortable and the security made it easy for me to relax and sleep well, which is difficult for me as I suffer with insomnia and PTSD. Thank you for my stay, I have enquired about living here e.g. longer term stay.
Spent time playing pool, reading on the bean bags in front of the tv in the lounge. Sky tv and an ice cream on the bean bags with my fleece blanket from the room was my go to when it was raining.
I'll definitely recommend and be back x

Basic rooms in a great location with the added advantage of a place to cook.

Very cool Hostel and reception is truly helpful

The location is very convenient, you can walk to the uni or just take any bus downstairs to CBD center. The utilities are cleaned frequently, you just buy food to cook here, all of utilities are in the public kitchen. But be aware that the opposite is fire station .
