The following services are also available for the guests: a massage room. Tourists who can’t live without swimming will appreciate an outdoor pool. Modern and clean

After a 2 week G-Adventures tour with 16 others staying in local family hotels in Guatamala, Belize and Mexico 2 nights in this hotel was a welcome change. The hotel is not in the center which means a taxi back in the evening is necessary (safety advice) but a one block walk onto 10th and then the pedestrian only road all the way to the center. It is a long walk but loads of restaurants and shops on the way. Take a left off 10th and beach is only a short walk. The hotel has clean rooms, great bathrooms, a lift and a pool on the roof with comfy chairs and loungers. Staff were friendly.

Very mediocre

We booked a room with balcony for our 2 night stay. After 45min driving we arrived there in the early evening and got a room on the ground floor even though it wasn’t what we booked.
The receptionist told us that he would change the room for a better one the second night only.
When arriving in the room we wanted to take a shower and as a surprise we found a big clump of hair on the shower floor.
We immediately asked the receptionist if
someone could remove it and he told us someone would come within the next 10 min.
After 30 min of waiting, we asked him again and he told us he couldn’t confirm if someone was available to remove it nor would he do it himself (he said it wasn’t in his job description). He even suggested that we could remove the hairs ourselves.
After 45 min and many complaints he finally came to the room and removed the filth.
The other receptionist (girl) the day after was kind, apologized and changed us the room.
The rooms are well equipped but with low quality furnitures (Netflix is a plus though).
This hotel is really too far from the center(30min walk minimum).
The breakfast was simple but ok (two toasts, jam, coffee or juice) and we enjoyed taking it on top of the terrace.
They gave us a voucher for the Kool beach club which is very nice though.
The price is a very good deal but don’t expect too much from this hotel.

Thank you for your review and thoughtful constructive comments. We apologize that your reserved room was not available as we had planned and that the guest service team did not immediately follow thru with commitment to change you to the proper room type.
The hotel recently closed for a brief refresh and change of management and administration. We are happy to report that a new service focused general manager and customer care team is now in place with proper above property supervision. Room types have been more properly allocated to avoid the scenario that you described. The hotel is a select service hotel 2 blocks from the ocean and we are very happy to offer family friendly pricing with select service amenities and do not offer the full amenities of an all inclusive more expensive resort. The new management company is proud of our record to deliver legendary guest experiences regardless the price paid or amenities of the hotel. Please consider us on a future trip and we would appreciate your thoughts on the new Portea Hotel Playa del Carmen Midtown.

what a gem!

the rate couldn't be better the management very professional and friendly.
the roof top pool so nice the room was spotless .
one of a kind! hotel I could stay here for months and not miss my home!
the breakfast not expensive and delicious .

Great Hotel and not far from the beach!!

I had a really good time at the hotel, everything was super clean staff were helpful.
The hospitality was great and the rooftop with pool with the sea view was incredible.
I would defiantly recommend to my friend and family to come.

nice & affortable

we loved the Portea hotel because of the nice helpful service and it is close to the beach. the prices in cancun are quite expensive but this hotel is super nice and affortable!
the main tourist area with restaurants is just one block away.
