Have booked to return
This is a fabulous guest house in the suburbs of Mersing, about 3km from the downtown port. I stayed here for one night each before catching the ferry to and from Pulau Tioman. The owners are helpful, kind and hospitable, organising transport to and from the ferry terminal. Make sure you let them know when you're on the ferry returning to the mainland so they can make sure that transport is waiting for you at the terminal on arrival.
The rooms were spacious and comfortable, with air conditioning, if needed, ceiling fans and a compact ensuite bathroom complete with a good quality hot water shower. There was an abundance of bottled water in the shared fridge and relaxing lounge and dining spaces.
For food, I mainly used Grab (equivalent to UberEats, but there are no UberEats in Malaysia, Grab offers Malaysian ride share and food delivery services instead), which was delivered to Maple Villa. You could walk to a nearby warung, kopitiam, for a delicious breakfast, but beware there are patchy footpaths (sidewalks), and some extremely fierce and dangerous dogs (if they escaped from their fenced enclosures in neighbouring yards).
I liked it so much here that I'm returning again in July and August 2026.

Basic and inexpensive homestay.
We really enjoyed our stay here. Kam is the owner and his family look after the operations. It’s a very basic homestay that doesn’t provide breakfast/ meals. The rooms and bathrooms are super clean and the outdoor area (veranda) is wonderful. It’s a couple of KMs out of town so it is very peaceful.
We were very well looked after. Kam recommended a restaurant for dinner in town and paid our Grab then drove us to the Jetty in the morning.
Don’t let the distance from town impact your choice, it’s only a couple of dollars for a grab and it’s nice to be in a residential area

Great time with Kam and his family
Kam and his family are really nice and great hosts. Kam picked us up at Mersing Jetty and in the evening he gave us a ride to city center (there and back).
His guest house is also a lovely place and our room was clean, comfortable and spacious. We had a great time at Mersing Maple Villa and we would definitely stay there, again.

Gracious hosts, comfortable stay
Room was spacious and clean, air-conditioning was quiet and efficient, parking was within the gated compound of the house. Hosts were friendly and helpful, with suggestions on activities and food. Lots of terrace space, a fridge, microwave and wet pantry for common use. Jetty and town were a short Grab ride away for a few ringgit as we were too tired to drive and play.

Best host in Malaysia
Kam and his family are really great hosts! When I traveled from Kuala Lumpur to Mersing, my bus was unfortunately 4 hours late due to a breakdown. Kam still picked me up at the bus station at 1:15 a.m. He wrote to me via WhatsApp that he would pick me up at any time, no matter when. I didn't need to worry! The next day he drove me to the ferry again.
When I came back from Tioman on the ferry, he unfortunately couldn't pick me up because he had to work. He paid for the taxi instead. I wanted to pay for it myself, but he insisted, so I agreed. He said that all transport was included in his room price! The next day he drove me to the bus again at 6:30 a.m. and waited with me in the car until 7:10 a.m. until the bus finally arrived!
Kam's house is also very cozy. You have your own room including bathroom, but you can use the entire living area and garden. The kitchen, including coffee, tea, water, biscuits, etc.
There are Malaysian restaurants and a small supermarket not far away!

This property does not accommodate bachelor(ette) or similar parties. A damage deposit of MYR 200 is required. The host charges this 14 days before arrival. This will be collected by bank transfer. You should be reimbursed on check-out. The deposit will be fully refunded via bank transfer if there is no damage to the property upon inspection after check-out.
