Great staff made us feel at home

We had a great experience staying at Mikalo House. We stayed in the 'Deluxe Double Room with Balcony,' so I can't speak for the dorms, but everything we encountered was clean and working. The shared bathrooms contain a toilet and shower and as a bigger man they were a little squishy, but I appreciated the privacy they afforded. It is a hostel after all. The kitchen is also well stocked with pots, pans and utensils.
Absolutely the highlight was the staff. After a month on the road and countless bored receptionists and auto check-ins, it was so nice to have staff who would ask for (and remember) our names and have a quick chat to us when leaving or returning home. They were also full of tips for tourists and locals knowledge.
The gate code system was a little confusing at first, but the instructions they sent beforehand were clear (I just hadn't read them properly).

Peaceful hostel in great location

Stay was nearly perfect - the room was clean and well laid out, bathroom facilities were great, and the location was EXCELLENT! I was thrilled that it was a quiet hostel.
However, on the first night, the peace was disturbed by a guest checking in after midnight. While everyone in the room was in bed, the guest loudly interrupted our sleep, turned the lights on, and spent almost 30 minutes trying to introduce herself, failing to take the hint that it was late and people wanted to sleep.
Please be aware that this is not a party hostel.

Loved it

The house was such a warm atmosphere, the staff super friendly and welcoming. The location is amazing - its in a little corner of a street that leads to a beautiful old church and lights. The entire city is beautiful. The hostel is so Nice - super cozy and clean! Recommended!

Excellent location comfortable great value for money.

We loved The Mikalo House. Very friendly place, we had a private room. The bed was a bit soft but we slept so well. Very quiet. We had a small
Balcony over looking the inner yard and the side of a church. Loved the bells on Sunday morning.
The bathroom was basic but very clean. Excellent shower and lots of hot water.
Great cafe downstairs with access from the garden.coffee and food delicious.
The reason I’m giving this a 5 /5 is apart from excellent value for money the receptionist Ira is so friendly and helpful. We got great tips from her.
Highly recommend- we are an older couple early sixties. Very happy and comfortable there.

Horrible experience: I got robbed.

I arrived 2hs before the check in and the receptionist told me to leave my luggage in a locked room, and come back later. When I go back to the hotel, the receptionist opens the door and my things were gone. She left the keys of this room on the desk and left for who knows how long. Somebody grabbed it, open the room and took my things. They have cameras, but they don't record.
I called the police and spent 4hours describing all the things that got stolen. The hotel took no responsibility at all and offered me nothing. I had to ask for compensation (towels, a private room, not be charged for my stay and some money), but they did not want to do that. It was to the point I started crying that they were ok with giving me some money to buy basic toiletries (of course not equivalent to what I lost because of them), and they did not even said that they were sorry.
Clearly this ruined my vacation. I lost more than 1.300eu in things because of their incompetence, and they did not even had a human response to this. Really the worst experience I ever had while traveling.
