Amazing place by the sea
I spent two nights on the ship "Uszihtiba" at the beginning of April. It was cozy, warm, and well-equipped. It felt like fulfilling a childhood dream of being a pirate and sailing the seas near and far. Since the ship is located almost by the sea, I could hear the waves all night long. If you prefer more traditional accommodation or want to camp with your own tent, this campsite has something for everyone — no matter your needs or budget.
I also tried the sauna right on the seashore — such a relaxing and wonderful experience! After heating up in the sauna, you can dip straight into the sea. The sauna has a lovely terrace with a sea view where you can sip tea between sessions.
The campsite also offers a great restaurant serving delicious local meals — fish, sklandrausis, bukstiņbiezputra, and many more.
I highly recommend visiting Melnsils in the off-season, when the entire campground and beach can feel like they’re just for you. Solitude by the sea is where the true magic of Kurzeme reveals itself. One more tip: wake up for the sunrise — Melnsils is one of those rare places in Latvia where you can see it rise above the sea!

Amazing stay!
Amazing place! Very friendly staff! Very quite at night! Highly recommend! Warm shower for 3 euro. If You want to make a fire, you can buy firewood for additional 3 euro. Great for families with kids (there is mini zoo), also excellent for couples (very romantic views). Very nice and cosy bar (works till 11 p.m.) with good kitchen (works till 10 p.m.). We had parking for one night (camper with electricity) for 15 euros plus 3 for each person!

Krišjanis Valdemars room, lovely experience
We stumbled upon camping by chance, when searching for accommodation online, looking for an overnight stay. A couple of hours after staying at Melnsils, we decided to extend our stay for additional night. The fisherman's cottage is lovely, each room has its own story and theme and Krišjanis room was comfortable and we loved the character (and functionality) of it. The small kitchenette had everything we needed to cook a small meal and coffee, the bathroom was clean. The beds are quite hard, very camping-style, fair warning, if you are bothered by that. The window is a roof-window, without a curtain, which means you are awoken by light every morning, which I loved, the most natural awakening there is. The sound isolation is not the best, you can hear the neighbours talk in the next room.
There is a terrace on the floor with the rooms, where you can enjoy your lunch and breakfast, if you cook it yourself, or you can always go downstairs to the other end of the cottage to the pub.
The beach is a minute walk away, really fantastic, you can see the sea from most places in the camping. The barrels looked like loads of fun as well, but we opted for private bathroom.
The camping offers a lot of activites, they rent out a lot equipment, but fair warning - the cheaper bikes are is seriously poor condition and both "cheaper" and "expensiver" rental for bikes is too expensive for one day.
The store is a few minutes walk from the camp, where you can buy ingredients if you wish to cook for yourselves. And to buy water, we disliked greatly the smell and look of water, so we bought our own.
The staff is really friendly, so all in all it was a very pleasant experience and would love to return there. Even though the accommodation itself has its faults, all the plus options they offer make up for them.

One night in a barrel
We just stayed for one night in Melnsils. The staff was overall very friendly and accomodating. We decided to spend the night in one of the barrels right next to the ocean. Keep in mind that most of them (or even all barrels) have no electricty so buy some candles / lighter and a bottle of wine or two beforehand. The whole place was very clean. The facilities were all very basic, just as one would expect from a camping place - but functional nontheless. There is a "summer"shower with unheated water for free, warm showers cost a small fee. Breakfast and dinner are served in a small restaurant on site for a fair price. They offer quite a few outdoor-activities, but sadly we had no time for those. Spending a couple of days there might well be worth it.

Great guest house
I stayed with my extended family at the guest house on the property. It was a very good value, as the house was beautiful, thirty meters from the beach, and in a great small location which was isolated but had access to everything. Highly recommended.
