This ryokan was recommended by a Japanese coworker and our stay at Hotel Hanakoyado was exquisite. We were only able to stay one night, because it was booked up when we had planned to go earlier in our trip. We ended up staying here the night before our flight home and it was just the decompression we needed for our long flight the next day. The staff was so helpful and friendly, and you could really tell they took a lot of pride in their work. The meals were delicious. We especially loved dinner, and the Charcoal Grilled Kobe Beef really just melts in your mouth. We booked the room with the private onsen because that was the only room available and I was determined to stay here (since it was so highly recommended) and it was absolutely worth it and very relaxing. They also handle booking and transportation to a massage parlor nearby. We did an aromatherapy full-body massage and slept like babies that night. I am absolutely looking forward to visiting this place again. Thank you so much for your hospitality.
Note: I would book directly through the website for this inn because expedia overcharged us

The location is great and the private onsen rooms are amazing if you are not comfortable using an onsen in front of everyone else.
However, the food was NOT GOOD, it was mostly raw fish and flavourless broths that all tasted the same and cost like $30,000 yen for two people.
They also didn’t provide extra pillows when asked which is crazy given the price you have to pay. It was also loud all night and the people upstairs kept us up all night.

The room and in-roon onsen, meals and staff were all good. The hotel is not far from train or bus stations but may get lost on the way there easily.

You may want to call them to pick you up if you don’t wanna walk up hill with your luggage.

Loved the environment and look of both the ryokab and town. We got to try all 3 onsens and enjoy each. Staff was extremely friendly, food was delicious and worth the value, and or stay was comfortable.
