A nice little place that can give you beautiful memories

I stayed in this hotel for 7 nights on a half board basis at the end of July. I had booked a double, a single and a double for single use with a quote sent by email. We were 4 people.
The structure appears in line with category standards at first glance. I have been staying in South Tyrol regularly for many years. When I choose a hotel I never expect perfection, whatever the stars it is normal to find something wrong. It's not a competition to see who can find the most flaws. Each structure has its strengths and weaknesses, not even the houses where we live all the rest of the year are perfect, we try to maintain them as best as possible so that they make our life as less uncomfortable as possible.
Whether we stay for a few or many nights, we expect the structure we have chosen to give us a comfortable holiday (with as little sacrifice as possible) overall.
In our stay below you will find observations on the service offered.
STRONG POINTS
- As soon as we arrived we received a KIND WELCOME from the owners;
- The room assigned had a large television, two comfortable armchairs, parquet on the floor, and a beautiful large terrace with two deckchairs and a small table with a MAGNIFICENT VIEW. ON THE MOUNTAINS. The other two rooms had no balcony but with large windows both in the bedroom and in the bathroom, without a view of the mountains, without parquet but with carpet on the floor. All with television and very bright.
- The MEAL BUFFET is essential but fresh, salad, tomatoes, green beans, corn and other vegetables to combine as desired on your plate with two sauces available for seasoning (yoghurt sauce and a vinaigrette) as well as oil and salt;
- THE TASTY DINNER MENU always consists of first course, second course, dessert, cheese and fruit, except on the chef's day off (Sunday) when grilled meat and vegetables are served accompanied by a vegetable buffet. No dessert on that day
- The hotel STAFF is always very KIND;
- The FREE PARKING service is right in front of the hotel.
- THE BREAKFAST IS WELL SUPPLIED with different types of bread (including wholemeal), various cold cuts and cheeses, loose yogurt, fruit, cereals, jams, Nutella, two types of juices, and hot drinks come directly from the bar room (coffee, cappuccinos, tea and herbal teas, chocolate, no barley or decaffeinated as I understand). There are no cakes, biscuits or croissants. Upon request, they bring the hard-boiled egg with salt in the appropriate egg holder.
- The structure also has a MAGNIFICENT GARDEN with plum trees and a large swimming pool. Plums can be bought in hotels in convenient trays at a very modest price.
- IN ADDITION TO THE TABLES THERE ARE SUN LOUNGES IN THE POOL/GARDEN AREA, they can be taken from a designated storage area and put back in their place when they are no longer in use.
- THERE IS A BAR ROOM in the structure for coffee and drinks (extra always subject to payment as in any other structure)
- There is a FULLY COVERED VERANDA safe in case of strong sun or rain for chatting or playing
- There is a SMALL RECREATION ROOM, equipped with board games and books in both Italian and German.
- THE STRUCTURE HAS PROVIDED US WITH THE MERAN CARD. With this you can take public transport in the area and visit various museums, all for free (we used it to visit: the Archaeological Museum of Alto Adige and Castel Roncolo both in Bolzano, and the Castel Tirolo museum, but there are many museums that we haven't visited yet and we promised ourselves to return soon). The nearest bus stop is 10 minutes away, the center is 25 minutes away on foot. The return is always a slight climb since the structure is located in the raised area of Maia Alta compared to the center.
POINTS OF WEAKNESS
- Even though I had specified my food intolerances by email a long time in advance, THEY DID NOT ALWAYS REMEMBER TO PROVIDE ME WITH WHAT I COULD EAT. I had to remember many times what I needed while traveling too. I don't tolerate white pasta well so I always eat wholemeal but this has never been possible in the hotel even if I warned beforehand. Once I ate the white pasta carbonara, once we were given the non-wholemeal pizza, once the dumplings I suppose were not wholemeal. Afterwards I asked for the first meal to be wholemeal at the next meal because I really risked exaggerating and feeling very ill but I wasn't able to have wholemeal pasta that time either, they provided me with gluten-free pasta for celiacs because it said on the box which was made from corn, so it wasn't white pasta. In the end I gave up on wholemeal pasta, I kept my post-dinner stomach ache and stationed myself near the bathroom in case of sudden needs. After all, it is an intolerance, not a real allergy.
- THE COURTESY SET includes two bars of soap and two jars of shampoo in the soap department. These were NEVER REFILLED throughout the stay. In the end, having to ask for toiletries every day is really unpleasant and we organized ourselves by going to buy shampoo in the shop. I think it would be nice to replenish the products without having to ask, at least every other day. Or the structure could use the ecological dispensers (appropriately filled when they run out throughout the stay) that many hotels already use. They are attached to the wall in order to save on waste from disposable bottles.
- Reading the hotel website I was expecting a nice heated swimming pool like I have found on other occasions in Alto Adige. But on the days in which I used it, THE POOL WATER WAS COLD like a normal swimming pool and it takes a little time to acclimate (but everything is done if you love swimming). For my mother, who doesn't know much about swimming, the pool was too deep and therefore a little uncomfortable. To enter there is only a ladder. When there were no people around, my mother would sit on the ladder to make up for the fact that she couldn't touch us. Since the water in the pool is not level with the edge, it is not possible to exit from the sides, a ladder is needed.
- As warned on the website, DINNER IS SERVED AT 7 PM sharp. For many Italians it will be too early but before booking one knows it and comes prepared. Alternatively, you can choose another structure more suited to your needs or choose the formula with breakfast only. Complaining when it is explicitly written in my opinion is useless. Because you are well informed about this even before deciding to book.
- I understand that it is important to respect local habits and customs, after all we are only guests passing through, but NOT PROVIDING A CHOICE IN THE MENU (FIXED MENU) even if it streamlines the service a lot is in my opinion very restrictive. I think it's excessive to be able to think that everyone can like the same things for seven days in a row. It would be nice to be able to find at least a choice between two first courses and two second courses.
- THERE IS NO ELEVATOR,
- THERE IS NOT OR WE DIDN'T FIND A BATHROOM ON THE GROUND FLOOR, we always had to use the bathroom in our rooms even when we were at the pool.
CONCLUSIONS
Overall, the structure meets the category standards, the food is good and the staff is friendly, all qualities that should absolutely not be underestimated.
It is true that the majority of the customers are German speaking (during my week only my table spoke Italian) it is also true that the staff speaks Italian the way it is spoken in South Tyrol (as a second language) but this should not discourage , the staff is really kind and well mannered, they make themselves understood and understand very well.
The management is family-run, father, mother, 4 splendid children (I had the opportunity to talk to two of them and they were really kind and good, Lucas and Miriam, they will excuse me if I didn't write their names correctly but I didn't have the opportunity to ask) plus the staff hired.
If you book early you can choose between the cheaper room with only windows or those with a balcony with a priceless view. The structure does not have a lift. Those who have difficulty climbing two floors on foot can specify the problem as we did and they placed us on the first floor. They also help with carrying suitcases.
Prices are those you read on the site. The balance is cash only. We made a deposit upon arrival (there is no safe in the room). The tourist tax cost 1.55 euros per person per day. The 50 cl bottle of water with meals costs 1.50 euros. There are no one-litre bottles.
Overall we found ourselves quite well, apart from some small inconveniences that we somehow alleviated (food intolerances, shampoo not replenished, no bathroom on the ground floor, cold water in the pool) the holiday in this property went very well. I RECOMMEND IT, THIS IS A PLACE TO TRY.

Capodanno a Merano

Erholsamer Urlaub
