Perfect mid-range hotel in Loveno hillside above Menaggio

Our group of eight stayed during the heatwave of June/July (38-40 degrees) so very grateful for the (very shallow) swimming pool (with complimentary pool beds/towels) in which to cool down.
Rooms are on the small side but all with much-needed AC and a perfectly adequate bathroom and storage, and we enjoyed a lakeside view. The large beds were brand new with fantastic mattresses. Breakfast is included and offered a selection of pastries, charcuterie, eggs, yoghurt etc. Couldn’t fault the staff but particular mention to Vanna and Sophie from the hotel, and Gabrielle in the restaurant who were particularly charming and helpful. No in-room fridge but there is a 24-hour communal fridge near the restaurant entrance where water is available and guests can store perishables. We ate lunch once on the pretty hotel terrace which was possibly the best meal of our visit - amazing risotto, home-made pasta and delicious tuna ceviche. (My only minor niggle is the pool ladder which has only two high rungs making it quite difficult for those less able to get out easily.)
The hotel has vastly improved since our last stay here over 15 years ago and all the best for continued success to the new owners.
Unless you are particularly fit and it’s cool, I wouldn’t suggest walking from the hotel to Menaggio town. Down is relatively easy but the route back is very steep, windy and not particularly pleasant with the erratic driving but if you have a car, there’s free parking at the hotel. Taxis are available to Como, Milan etc. but expensive and scarce. Otherwise the location is just ideal: quiet, peaceful and surrounded by greenery. Highly recommend if you’re after a no-frills stay.

Hot hot visit in Como

Nice, clear place. Big front yard with a nice lake view. Parking for free. Miss a refrigerator in room. Staff there was pleasant.One recomendation to restaurant: you have let to have a dinner at restaurant inside, not just outside the building( specially now, when temp is over 30C outside).We stictly asked ti stay inside. Restaurant supervisor wasnt happy, but we stayed inside. And one more bonus to hotel: You could have more dinner tables and to earn more money. Think about it.
P.s. risotto was VERY GOOD!

Very basic clean accommodations. Incredibly hard mattress and pillows. Front desk was not very helpful. The breakfast service is chaotic and they don’t replenish food so need to be there as soon as they open if you want food. Restaurant was closed two nights for “unexpected technical issues” which was frustrating bc the walk to town for dinner is very steep for 30 min. Room is very clean though.

The hotel was wonderful and Sofia Maria, at the front desk was amazing. She did everything possible to make our stay lovely and comfortable. As far as the location is concerned, we were very surprised to find that it is located up a very steep hill about a mile from town and the taxi service is almost non-existent. We found it almost impossible to get to the hotel once you get off of the ferry. The hotel has no transportation. If you do find a ride they charge you 35 Euros. We had to go to one of the waterfront hotels and convince a staff person to take us up Of course, they charged us the 35 euros to help us. That said, each time you want to go into town or visit the other amazing towns of Lake Como by ferry, it will cost you 70 euros round trip . It is possible to walk down, which they told us was a 10 minute walk but it took us 45 minutes. We highly recommend the hotel, but only if you have a car. The restaurant for breakfast was wonderful and dinner was delicious, sitting outdoors with an amazing view and wonderful service. We loved the hotel and would stay again if we had a car.

Disaster stay at this Hotel

DO NOT STAY IN THIS HOTEL! We have just left after three nights in this hotel which was suppose to be a special occasion. On arriving off the ferry in Menaggio with all our suitcases we found that this hotel is located almost half an hour walk up a very steep hill. There was no shuttle provided by the hotel and I emailed them before I arrived asking if they could provide transport from the ferry on arrival but they never replied. There are no taxis or ubers at the dock so we had no choice but to walk, p.s there never is taxis or users available. I cannot stress how aweful the climb up cobbled footpaths in the heat was, we had to carry our suitcases for a stretch of the walk with great difficulty. We were drowned in sweat and very unhappy, even though we consider ourselves relatively fit and it got worse from there. When we arrived, the male hotel receptionist did not care that we had experienced this dreadful climb and offered no aplogies. He said he can organise taxis for guests for a charge of 30 euro cash. This seems to be a little side business in this hotel, by offering no shuttle bus they are cleaning up off their guests getting 30 euros for an 6 min drive, knowing their guests have no other option.DO NOT STAY IN THIS HOTEL WITHOUT A CAR! Also we were then given a room that could not fit our suitcases in, it was so small we had to store our cases in the wardrobe. We paid for a classic double room with a balcony and view of the lake. The view was blocked by a tree and our balcony was right beside the entrance to the hotel on the ground floor so we could not use it for privacy reasons. The shower was so tiny, you could not turn in it and there was no water in the room on arrival. The food was poor especially the evening meals, very poor choice and basic but expensive. We spoke to other guests about these issues and they too could not believe the dIstance up the hill by foot and they complained about their room size to the hotel and ended up having to move three times to different rooms. I cannot stress enough not to spend your special time in Como at this hotel. Pay a little bit more for a better location in a different hotel because this is not a hotel you will feel pampered or well looked after.
