The Sahara Hotel Is a Complete Disgrace — Do Not Be Fooled
The Sahara Hotel is hands down the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had, and that’s saying something. The pictures and descriptions on their website are nothing more than a bait-and-switch scam. What they sell online and what you actually get are worlds apart.
The room I was given was essentially a closet masquerading as a hotel room. The so-called “queen bed” was literally two single beds pushed together, wedged a foot from the front door. No windows, no natural light — just a dark, suffocating cave that reeked of mildew and neglect. The “furnishings” were a joke: lawn furniture serving as nightstands. Everything about the space screamed cheap, dirty, and depressing.
Within minutes of stepping inside, I knew I couldn’t stay there. I had to abandon the reservation and book another hotel immediately — that’s how unlivable it was. When I asked for a refund, the manager, Maia, couldn’t have cared less. She refused outright, showing zero professionalism or basic human decency. Air Canada Vacations, through whom I booked, even tried contacting the hotel to help resolve the issue, and the Sahara Hotel stonewalled them too.
The situation was so bad that both Air Canada Vacations and Expedia informed me they are delisting this dump from their platforms altogether. That should tell you everything you need to know.
This is not just a bad hotel — it’s a disgrace to the hospitality industry. The Sahara Hotel should be avoided at all costs. Do yourself a favor: save your money, your health, and your sanity, and book literally anywhere else.

Clean room. Refurbished recently but…
Extremely small room with just enough room to open the door. Miniscule horizontal window giving on to the noisy corridor and zero view. No no one at reception when I arrived and rather unpleasant receptionist. And the hotel looks nice in the pictures but is located in a kind of courtyard accessible down a dark path.
Definitely do not recommend.

Simple and good hotel.
Very nice hotel. friendly, friendly and friendly service.
There is no pool and no breakfast but there is a coffee shop in the lobby with a large selection.

A fully equipped apartment for a family located in a separate residential building close to the hotel
We were only in the lobby of this boutique hotel, which looked beautiful and special, and at the reception we received keys to the two-bedroom apartment we had booked, located about 150 meters from the hotel in Simtat (Alley) Yam Suf in Eilat. This hotel has several apartments in that building that they market under the name "Melony Apartments" in a renovated building with registered parking for each apartment and the possibility of entering an underground parking garage. We were on the top floor with an amazing view of both the mountains and the sea from our balcony. Everything to feel at home, included a Tami4 water filter, Nespresso (with a stock of capsules), a washing machine (with washing powder), shampoo, and more. A TV in each room with access to the Cellcom channel package. In our opinion it's an excellent value for those looking for an apartment (without room service) in Eilat. It is important to note that the hotel reception was very polite and asked to contact them with any questions or problems if needed 24/7. They also have WhatsApp.
The door to one of the rooms that was defined as a protected room ("mamad" - acronyms in Hebrew) that, according to Israeli law, must be in every apartment built after the 1990s in Israel, would not close, probably to avoid dealing with a possible malfunction, we don't really know, but it is definitely not something good or normal.
Another important detail is that the area is a residential neighborhood with mix of old, new or renovated buildings. It is not located far from a tourist area, but without a car or a taxi that will take you to a tourist area of Eilat in about 5 minutes, we think you should lower your expectations of the area. We would not define it as dangerous or something like that, but it certainly includes also a very simple local population.
Anyway, a fully equipped kitchen with the ability to prepare food for children was very important to us and there are several supermarkets not far away, so we left satisfied.
