Country lane goodness

I booked last minute, off season, and Tom could not have been more welcoming, friendly and helpful. The hostel is rustic, comfy, unique and just absolutely lovely. The Wednesday evening ballad session at the local pub in Mooncoin is a delight and a must. Travelling solo, I rate this hostel as a great one for solo travellers. (I did have a car.). The dormitory is spacious, the shared bathroom is clean and spacious, the kitchen has everything you need. You are down a country lane, so there are cows, and fresh air and amazing sunsets and sunrises. There is a pub and some ruins at the end of the lane. I loved my stay here, booked an extra night and got a lift with Tom to Comerfords Hotel, Mooncoin for the ballad session. For authentic Ireland, this hostel ticks all the boxes. For a solo female traveller, this is a good one.

Best place and best host

Stayed here years ago on a whim. Was hiking through Ireland with a friend and we were spent. Ended up booking in with Tom and hopping on a bus to Waterford. He collected us to make sure we wouldn’t get lost and he was so very accommodating throughout our stay. The hostel was still very much under construction but it was still fabulous. Must see, must go.

A must-visit when in Ireland

I actually came here some time ago (5 years ago), and found Tom's business card as I was cleaning out my wallet so I HAD to write a review.
We were a group of 4 from Michigan and Tom's was the very first hostel we stayed at as we toured the island. What a way to start our adventure! The hostel was exceptionally clean, and it's in a quasi-remote are - meaning you're not waking up to sounds or smells of the city, but clean country air. We were able to walk up and down the road as well without having to worry about traffic.
Tom and his family were extremely friendly, and my friends and I still talk about how hospitable he was. I'm embarrassed I didn't write a review sooner, but I'm glad I finally did. Be sure to sign his guest book (assuming he still has it) and look for the review from JANE in 2015!

Don't hesitate to stay here....

I never write reviews to be honest but Tom's Cottage hostel is so good I'll make an exception! Tom is a wonderful man- a real gentleman with the gift of the gab and knowledgeable on lots of topics. The hostel is really small and intimate and we were made to feel very welcome. It was hard to leave and it was like living with (a well functioning) family. Highly recommended! Don't stay in the city of Waterford, stay at Tom's hostel!

Oh sooo charming!!!

Hmmm... where do I begin! Tom's Cottage is so amazing! The rooms are pristine and so eco-friendly. Tom and family are very welcoming and it really is just so much fun! You need to come here! They also have adorable and tiny kittens, adult cats, dogs, and a horse! I give this place an eleven out of ten!!!
