Lovely staff!!
Becky and Niamh are lovely people who helped me out on many occasions. I would be in the pillo regularly and every time they see me they come with a smile and a catchup. Great girls who make that extra bit more special with every time I come.

Don't waste your money, terrible room and uncaring staff
We stayed for two nights last week and what a disaster from the very beginning. We were allocated a room which on first glance was tired looking but when we looked properly was a health and safety issue of a huge crack in the bottom of a full length window which we reported straight away. We went off to get something to eat and when we returned and went to make a cuppa and found a disgusting kettle that should have been binned. The skirting board was stapled on carpet and the bathroom was full of mold. At this stage I went down and said we wanted another room, bearing in mind we had paid almost €400 for two night stay. The receptionist said she would organise an upgrade and to wait in the room she would send a porter with new key cards for us, around ¾ of hours later I went back down to be told that they were giving us the room next door, this wasn't much better, broken toilet, torn bedding, another cracked window, dirty walls, hair on bath, brocken bath tap and other issues, I asked the manager to come up and he said the hotel was full and offered us drinks vouchers at this stage it was nearly 8pm so we just felt we had no choice. When we went to redeem the vouchers the barman stood looking at us as if we were trying to cheat him or something and made us pay for the tonic to go with gin, this just adding insult to injury. When we checked out I asked to speak to a manager and I showed him photos of the apparently better second room and he said that they would be in touch with me and that we would be offered something to compensate for our stay. I have given them a week to come back to me before I posted this and there hasn't even been an email.

Excellent ending to my trip home

What a wonderful way to spend my final night in Ireland. From the moment I arrived at the Pillo Hotel Ashbourne, the service was exceptional. Sara at reception was so welcoming and even remembered my name, which made me feel truly valued. The young gentleman on duty went out of his way to ensure my room key was working properly before I headed upstairs. My room was spotless, comfortable, and exactly what I needed after a busy trip. The Irish breakfast the following morning was excellent and the perfect send-off before my journey home. Thank you to the entire team for such genuine Irish hospitality. I will definitely be back.

Never again.
We stayed here before and had no air-con and no hot water last time, but we had an event, so l fooled myself into staying again. Stupid move. We stayed in room 426.
Firstly this is a 2 star hotel, it's filthy, stains on the carpets and dampness coming through on the roof. Even the lamps had stains on them . The wallpaper was bubbling offf the wall, the furniture is battered and dingy. The shower door will stick when you try to open it and when you get in you might have to get help getting out. The extractor fan in the bathroom did nothing. The bedroom window was screwed shut, so if there was a fire there was going to be no air.
No smart tv, just basic,
Now to say all this, we paid €328 for the displeasure and to add insult to it all we had to pay an on the spot undisclosed €50 deposit that wasn't mentioned when booking so €378. Absolutely bonkers.
That was May 30th, it is now June 5th and we still have not recieved our deposit back.
There were other upsets too like not being on the list for breakfast and no cups to drink our tea and coffee out of.
I'd appreciate our deposit back. It's the least this hotel could do.
I'll probably have to email them to retrieve it.
My advise is to go by the "fool me once" saying.

Pillo stay - May 2026
We stayed at the Pillo as a couple attending a wedding in late May 2026.
The hotel was in a good location with refurbished rooms (some) however we had no opening window in our room. Other room ameneties were good.
There are limited choices for dairy free/vegetarian/wheat free on the menu's at breakfast or resteraunt, which I would not expect for the price or quality overall of the hotel so this was fairly dissapointing.
The cocktails however, bar staff and general atmosphere was great.
The added bonus of gym and spa is great.
