Awesome hotel and friendliest staff on the planet

Downings is a wonderful village located on the Wild Atlantic Way . the jewel in it's crown is the Downings Bay Hotel, what a wonderful place to stay and enjoy the ambiance of the hotel and surrounding areas. It is right on the Tra Mor beach with it's beautiful golden sands that go for miles. The staff and facilities of the Hotel are amazing and nothing is ever a problem. Highly recommend this hotel if you are planning a trip to Donegal.

Appalling service

Disgraceful attitude from staff. Came as a group of 6 walk-ins to the restaurant to be told that there were no tables available, despite there being free tables clearly on view. Left, headed to a local bar and booked a table for 6 over the phone which was gladly accepted by the receptionist. We arrived on time to find the same tables that were previously free were still free. Got sat at our table to be immediately told that the kitchen was closed, could order mains only and we had "a few seconds" to decide. All this despite us being there 30mins before the advertised kitchen closing time!!!! Needless to say we got up and left. Came as a group of golfers staying at another nearby hotel and would 110% NOT recommend a trip to this hotel for dinner

We loved our stay here, hotel is great, in the perfect location walking distance to the beach. The bar/restaurant is great for dinner and the staff are all very friendly and helpful.
The only disappointing thing for us is that we chose this hotel mainly because of the swimming pool (for the kids). It was only when we checked in that we realised the pool is actually located offsite at a local leisure centre in a caravan park - 1 mile drive from the hotel. The pool is also only available at certain times of the day, around the pool’s other uses. This is the only downfall and we felt it was very misleading when booking this hotel. However. Soft play is also available at the local leisure centre which the kids loved.

Good wholesome food!

We stopped here for lunch on a trip to this area. The food was lovely with generous portions served.
While we did not stay at the hotel itself , from what we experienced it certainly had a lovely homely atmosphere, making us keen to stay over the next time we visit Downings

Not what it said as described on the nenu

I had a beef burger, which was not clearly explained, what I thought was a beef burger constructed with pulled brisket beef like a pulled pork burger was not exactly what appeared , it had a cheap burger which had a thin layer of beef brisket cheese and fine crispy onions . It was delivered open , like an open sandwich , the other side of bun had mixed salad ,leaves half of which were gone over , the bun wasn't toasted all for €21..…
Do not eat here
