Very good

Strategically located at Ubud, near Ubud Market, monkey forest. Staff are very nice and accommodating. They serve breakfast, reasonable enough for the value you spend. Affordable. We had a great stay!

Left a day early and would not go back.

I booked this place knowing it was cheap, however it was so bad I had to leave a night early as I could not stay another night. The bed sheets smelt awful, so damp, and I’m pretty sure the ‘duvet’/blanket had not been washed so I ended up having to use my towel to cover me. I got back to my room too late in the evening to complain. It was very difficult to slee due to the unhygienic and damp smelling bedding and then I ended up getting woken up at 3am by a cockerel who was making noise constantly until 7am. The room stated it had aircon but it was just a fan. The lady was nice enough and they bring breakfast to your room but the cutlery was dirty and there was a dead ant in my drink. I could not wait to leave and would never stay again. It did have a pool but I did not use this and it was a good location.

Dump

Wish we had read reviews before our stay. If you get room 3, request to move immediately. We did after two nights. Dirt, dust, cockroaches, exposed wires from holes in the wall. Holes in the roof. There were ants in the sugar bowl at breakfast so I pointed it out to a staff member to take away. They put the exact same bowl back the next day. Same ants and all. When the two of us arrived, mid day heat with 5 bags we were met by a shirtless man who didn't offer to help with bags, didn't put on a shirt and stayed sitting on the ground. We named him Lump. We were moved to room 1 after a second sleepless night in room 3, which was passable. They charged us more for this without telling us. After we left, having checked out with Lump, a female staff member and a younger guy, we got a message through bookings accusing us of having stolen the room keys. After we left a well deserved bad review on bookings we got more abuse in a reply from the management, using what we now see is their favourite phrase; you want quality, you go to 5 star hotel!
Horrible, lazy staff make this place a dump. It actually has the potential to be nice if they cared about it.
Notice they have multiple pages on trip advisor, I assume as a result of bad reviews!

Horrible experience

My friend and I had booked a stay here for a few days. When we arrived we were taken to our room on the third floor. In order to get there, we had to climb very narrow stairs, and I would later be alarmed because these stairs were extremely difficult to navigate at night because there was no light around them. When we got to our rooms we dropped off our stuff and left because it had been hours since we had eaten, but before we left we checked out the bathroom only to notice that there was no trash can for the toilet tissue. I've stayed in a variety of accommodations in Southeast Asia, and if there is a Western toilet (even at the airport or restaurants) there is always a trashcan for toilet paper. After talking with many different locals, it is important to have this can because the system can't handle the toilet paper. We wanted to ask about the can before we left, but we could not find any staff to assist us. When we got back after our meal, we still had a difficult time finding someone to help us with the trashcan. Eventually, we found an employee, who was very confused by our request. Still, he gave us a trashcan that would typically sit on the balcony, but it wasn't sanitary to put used toilet tissue in it. Finally we found the owner later asking about it and she told us we were being ridiculous and that only luxury hotels do that (not true). My friend and I were calm and polite the entire time, and the owner began to get quite nasty with us. We wanted to leave but wanted our money refunded, which she would not do, so we said we needed to think about it. She told us we could take 2 hours to think about it. 20 minutes later she came up to our room and essentially kicked us out because there was another guest and she wanted our room. We tried to get our money refunded and rather than just be honest with us (I told her I was willing to pay the listing fee for the room that she would have paid on booking.com but not for the 5 night stay) she lied about how much she would've had to pay to list the room (it was almost the entire price). Eventually, she told us to leave and asked for a small payment which I happily gave her so we could leave. The owner was one of the rudest people I've met on my travels. I didn't think much of it when I saw that people complained about the smell of the bathroom, but I'm sure it's because they flush toilet paper (which is provided) rather than being able to properly dispose of it in trash cans (not provided). Also, for the little while we were there before we left I would also like to mention that the room was dirty, the beds and pillows were some of the most uncomfortable I've ever come across, and it was difficult to cool down the room. I would not recommend this place to anyone. It's not even in a convenient location.

Worst experience ever!

I am a frequent traveller and stayed from cheap hostels, moderate homestays to five stars luxury hotels (thank to my past job).
Since I worked 13 years in hotelier, I know, things can happen, so I never give out for minor issues, I do some cleanings if necessary etc, but Kabera 2 was just too much.
I arrived late afternoon and wanted to catch the sunset, so I dropped my luggage and left the homestay. Came back around 10-11 pm, took a shower and went to bed. There was a cockroach on the floor, I didn’t care much, we are in nature, but then I saw few bugs on my pillow. Brought them out, checked the bed at a glance and layed down.
Few minutes later again few bugs. Then I got up, started to check more carefully under the pillow case and sheet.
Bed was full of different types and sizes of bugs.
I paid 4 nights at check in, it was already after midnight.
I was miserable. Tried to cool done, but bugs just kept coming, so I looked for the reception and asked for my money back.
They didn’t even check the room, but refunded the full amount, which made me feel, they knew exactly about the situation.
Very disappointing “stay”.
