A youth hostel in an alley.
The location of the youth brigade is in a deep alley. I checked in at night, the alley had few lights, it didn't look very safe and there were wild dogs. In addition, the taxi was so poorly positioned that I had to walk up the main road to get a cab.
Regarding the facilities of this youth brigade:
1. Spatial layout
(a) Youth Brigade I has three floors
(b) You can live in a separate room with separate toilet and shower space
(c) Small overall space
2. Residential experience
(a) Soundproofing is very poor, it is recommended that you prepare earplugs or other protective measures
(b) The room I live in, the toilet and shower space is completely remodelled from a balcony facing out, which I personally don't like very much
3. Emergency situations
(a) I spent several days there and the last day the Youth Brigade's electric switch kept going
(b) The fault caused both lighting and air conditioning to strike for some time before being repaired

DO NOT STAY HERE – FILTHY, UNSAFE, AND FULL OF THIEVES
The Hide Hostel in Canggu is an absolute catfish. What they show online is nothing like the reality. The photos are heavily edited or outdated because this place is practically falling apart. It’s under constant construction, looks completely unfinished, and is honestly one of the dirtiest, sketchiest places I’ve ever stayed in — and I’ve backpacked a lot.
There are holes in the ceilings throughout the hostel, including directly above the bathroom. There were exposed beams, tools everywhere, trash lying around, and so many unfinished areas it felt like we were living in a construction zone. One day I even found a hole in the actual bunk bed I was sleeping in — and mosquitoes were flying in and out of it all night. I barely slept, and no one did anything about it.
The pool? Disgusting. The water was cloudy and the bottom was visibly dirty — it was clearly not being maintained.
From the day I checked in to the day I left (4 nights later), the same pile of hair sat on the bathroom floor untouched. There was a slimy substance on the wall and floor, and there were cigarette butts, wrappers, and random trash scattered around common areas. The bathrooms were grimy and uncomfortable to use. While I did see staff go in to “change sheets,” it honestly seemed more like they were snooping through belongings. I wouldn’t trust that anything was truly cleaned.
This is the biggest issue: your belongings are not safe here. I found my contacts on the floor that were originally sealed in a closed pocket in my backpack — a pocket I never opened. I found one of my bras across the room in a spot I never walked in. My friend had her GoPro stolen out of a locked locker. They tried to cut her metal lock, and when that didn’t work, they just ripped off the wooden locker door — likely using one of the many power tools they leave lying around.
When we told staff, they laughed, spoke in Indonesian while we were talking, and acted like it was no big deal. One worker even claimed this was the “first time anything was stolen,” but then slipped up and said “yeah, things have been stolen before.” They also have signs in every room warning guests not to leave ANY valuables — even shoes — which proves they know theft is common here.
And yet — there are no security cameras at all. They blame it on construction, but reviews from years ago say the same thing. Clearly, they’ve never had security and never planned on it.
One day, a worker at the front desk asked where I was from. When I said the U.S., he said, “Oh, rich girl. Americans have lots of money.” That was a huge red flag. Another Indonesian guy staying at the hostel (who lied about his name and age) was friends with the workers and kept trying to convince me to leave my laptop behind when going out — thankfully, I didn’t. But it honestly felt like the staff and some guests were working together to target foreigners.
People were literally having sex in the dorms, workers were smoking and lounging around all day, and the entire place just felt like no one cared — not about cleanliness, safety, or guests.
This hostel is disrespectful, unsafe, and honestly feels like a scam set up to steal from tourists. I highly suggest checking my Google review for photos — since I can't post them here, you'll see the truth there.
BOTTOM LINE:
Do not stay here — especially if you're a woman, traveling solo, or carrying anything valuable.

Absolutely discusting
This hostel is the worst place I’ve stayed in the two months I’ve been travelling. The place is a constructing site and looks absolutely like nothing on the pictures. It’s so discusting and not clean at all. Not even the sheets were clean and the staff does not understand nor speek english, so you can’t do anything about it. I was there during the silent day and therefore I was trapped in this horible place. DO NOT GO THERE
