Great experience

It’s low season at the moment and I was the only guest at Sonal Desert Camp for my overnight trip into the Thar Desert. The staff looked after me well, my room was incredibly comfortable, and the sunset camel ride was fun. Peaceful setting.

Fun trip

I was not sure about staying in a tent in the desert or going on a camel ride, but we did both and had a great time. The boys were so nice and helpful. We had a lovely diner by the fire in the desert. Lovely food, lovely company, lovely time. Thank you

Lovely time in the desert

We had a wonderful experience staying at Sonal Desert Camp in February 2026. We stayed here for the three nights as part of a birding group and really enjoyed ourselves. The tents were well equipped and spacious. The meals were great and we enjoyed eating outside under the stars. I look forward to heading back.

The Sonal Desert Camp was an exceptional experience. We stayed one night as a part of our family trip to India, and all 8 of us loved this peaceful reprieve from the bustle of India. The accommodations were clean and comfortable by western standards, the food was tasty, the cultural performance was lovely and the hospitality was genuine. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed. I’m particularly grateful that they were able to bring my elderly parents to the dunes to meet us for sunset. We had taken a camel ride to the dunes. Unfortunately we were too tired to go on the night excursions to the desert.

Pieceful, out of tourists, trafic and busy towns.

Sonal Desert Camp in Jaisalmer has garnered exceptional reviews from visitors, highlighting its outstanding service, cleanliness, and authentic desert experience. Guests frequently commend the camp's comfortable accommodations, with many noting the high quality of sleep under the stars. The camel rides, especially at sunset, are consistently praised, providing memorable views of the Thar Desert. The traditional Rajasthani dinners, accompanied by live music and dance performances around the campfire, further enhance the cultural experience.​
One guest shared, "Kamal is such a sweet guy and a great host. Picked up from my hotel in Jaisalmer and driven to the camp (about 1hr drive) which is next to his local village where he grew up. The tents are beautifully presented and I slept so well. Very comfy beds. Camel ride at sunset, amazing food, and local singing/music/dancing under the stars." ​
Another visitor remarked, "The staff is very welcoming and friendly. This desert camp is perfect to have an authentic experience: camel ride, sky full of stars, traditional dinner…" ​
