Perfect!

We had a wonderful stay at Maria Resort. Kostas and the rest of the staff were really friendly and kept the hotel beautifully clean. The room was spacious and had everything you could need for a self catering holiday. We did have to pay for the air conditioning when we arrived at a cost of €60 for the week.
The pool area and snack bar is lovely and there were always sun beds available. We ate at the snack bar a few times and the meals were delicious and really reasonable. A large beer in an iced glass was €5. You can pay by card.
Parga town is a 15 minute walk downhill but there are a number of bars and restaurants on the way before you get to the steps down to the town. We walked this every day but there was a taxi rank in the town if needed.
We would happily return to Maria Resort

Maria Studios

I have never written a review before but in this situation I feel it’s necessary. I will start with the positives first. The pool area is very nicely done but that’s where the positives end. I can honestly say I have never been on a holiday and not relaxed. The man who ran the place was very intimidating and I would go so far as to say a bully. From the moment we arrived he was rude to us. Demanded money straight away for the air conditioning. He made us feel very uncomfortable. The first day we went round the pool to be told we couldn’t do so much as move the sunbed. The sunbeds were in 2’s so me my husband and daughter had to sit separate. When my 15 year old daughter went in the pool he shouted at her saying she was not allowed to splash water. She was not allowed a small ball in the pool or a small lilio. She never went in after that and didn’t feel happy at the pool. It seemed to be different for the man’s family that were there all the time and could what they wanted. In the end we just couldn’t relax so we ended up booking another hotel and left. Would never go back there and I recommend that no one else does. Never felt so unhappy and uncomfortable on my holiday.

DO NOT RECOMMEND

If you’re looking for a relaxing week in Parga with warm Greek hospitality, unfortunately, this hotel is not for you
The biggest issue for us was the lack of hospitality and the attitude of the owner. We found him rude and intimidating, with some of the poorest customer service skills we have experienced. Throughout our entire week, we never received a smile, hello or welcome from him. There also seemed to be a constant preference for cash payments over card, with repeated remarks about paying in cash. While we completely understand that cash is important for a small business, we found the frequency of these comments uncomfortable and unnecessary.
The hotel is family-run, which in itself can be lovely, but we found that family members were frequently occupying the bar area and parts of the pool area. This made us feel as though we were being watched while trying to relax. There were also quite a few rules around the pool, including not being allowed to move the sun loungers and being discouraged from splashing in the pool — although these rules did not always seem to apply to the children of the family.
The food at the hotel actually looked lovely and was reasonably priced, but unfortunately, the lack of atmosphere and hospitality meant that we rarely saw other guests eating there. We personally chose to eat elsewhere during our stay.
Our room was very dated and in need of refurbishment. There were some questionable looking pipes coming up from the floor, and the room was quite dark and tired. On the positive side, we were on the third floor and had lovely views. The mattress was extremely hard and could definitely do with being replaced.
Air conditioning was an additional €60, which we found surprising, particularly for a stay in August when it is absolutely essential. We were also asked to pay this in cash upon check-in. Towels were not changed daily, even when we left them in the shower, which is something we would normally expect in a hotel.
The location is another important consideration. The hotel is outside Parga town, at the top of a very steep hill. In the August heat, we found the walk back extremely difficult. We are both fairly fit and in our 30s, but we genuinely dreaded the walk each day. Taxis also did not seem to be particularly accessible, which made the location more challenging.
There were certainly some positives — the views were beautiful, the food looked good and the hotel has potential. However, for us, the overall experience was overshadowed by the lack of warmth, hospitality and comfort. Sadly, we would not return or recommend this hotel, particularly if you are looking for the friendly, welcoming Greek experience that Parga is known for.

A stay where the customer service takes a holiday

If you’re looking for a relaxing stay in Parga, Maria Studios might not be the place for you — unless your idea of relaxation is being asked for money the moment you’ve barely stepped through the hotel-room door.
One of the first impressions was particularly memorable: the manager came across as quite intimidating when requesting payment for the tax and air-conditioning almost immediately after we arrived. There seemed to be a strong preference for cash over card, which became a recurring theme. Nothing says “welcome” quite like being chased for money before you’ve even put your bags down. We were two women travelling, so him closing the door behind him, as he walked into our room, and asking for money wasn’t his smartest move, I will admit he felt the wrath of my tiredness and felt like I went into protective mode over my partner.
Customer service also doesn’t appear to be his strongest skill. Walking past guests in the morning or evening without so much as a hello can make things feel rather cold and uncomfortable. There’s certainly no danger of being overwhelmed by unnecessary friendliness.
The bed deserves a special mention too — unfortunately, not a positive one. It was genuinely uncomfortable, making a good night’s sleep rather more ambitious than expected.
The pool area is another thing to be aware of. With family and friends constantly around, it sometimes felt less like a place for paying guests to relax and more like their own personal hangout. It’s a slightly strange atmosphere when you’re trying to enjoy some peace and quiet while feeling like you’ve wandered into someone else’s gathering.
Location-wise, the walk down to the port takes around 15 minutes and is nicely downhill on the way there. The catch? What goes down must come back up. The walk back is pretty intense, and at 33 I wouldn’t exactly describe myself as ancient, yet even my knees were questioning some of my life choices.
I’m also aware that everyone can have a different experience, and I’m sure some guests have genuinely enjoyed their stays here. This is simply my personal experience and the impression I was left with during ours.
So, if you’re after questionable customer service, repeated requests for cash instead of card, an uncomfortable bed, and a manager constantly appearing to monitor your every move, Maria Studios may well be the place for you.
If, however, you’re looking for warm hospitality, a genuinely welcoming atmosphere and somewhere to properly switch off, I’d suggest looking elsewhere. Running a hotel and providing good customer service should probably go hand in hand — here, they seem to have taken separate holidays.

Love Parga

We recently stayed at Maria Resort Parga for 1 week. Overall, the stay was good value for money and there were definitely positives.
The room was lovely, spacious and clean throughout my stay. The price I paid was very reasonable.
The location was good, depending on what you are looking for. It’s around a 10 minute downhill walk to where the restaurants start, about 20 - 25 minutes down to the main seafront, and roughly 20 minutes to Valtos Beach. Walking back up is definitely longer and harder in the heat due to the hill, but taxis were easy enough to get and usually around €6.
Unfortunately, the service experience was mixed for me. The male member of staff I dealt with came across quite cold at times and I often felt like I was being spoken to as a child rather than a guest. There was very strong reluctance when I asked for a fresh towel after mine hadn’t been replaced for a few days. I had left the used towel on the bathroom/shower floor, which is something I have always done in hotels when requesting a change as it was marked and needed replacing. When I went to ask after two days without it being changed, I was told I should have asked sooner and that towels should not be left on the shower floor. The way this was handled felt quite argumentative and uncomfortable, to the point where my son in law had to step in and say, “she’s just asking for a towel, why are you making it so difficult?”. I was initially told the cupboard was locked, but after some time a towel was eventually provided after he spoke to his mother, which made the situation feel unnecessarily difficult for something quite simple. I also asked for blankets, which were never provided.
On 2 nights during my stay, the same staff member appeared to have friends watching sports outside by the bar area until around 10:30 - 11pm, which created a lot of noise and was very audible as I was staying on the ground floor.
I believe I met Maria the owner during my stay, who came across as lovely and very friendly, so perhaps I just had a different experience to some other reviewers. Whilst some reviews mention great hospitality, I personally didn’t have that same experience throughout my stay.
I was a very respectful guest, quiet, tidy, and careful with the property, so at times it felt like I was being unnecessarily nitpicked. That said, the resort itself was clean, the room was large, and the price was very good value.
