A beautiful space with a lot of potential unfortunately wasted by its management
In summary (the opinion will be quite long and sometimes with lunar exchanges): the mill space has a charming exterior as it currently is and a huge room with a certain cachet but the management of the estate is calamitous. It would have harmed our marriage if we had not had more than competent service providers (caterer and DJ) to make up for it. Attention this place is abandoned by its owner using it as a storage for his personal effects and offices for the floor of the room.
We started our room search in August 2023 for July 2024, the domain “les 27” is the second place we visited with enough beds nearby to accommodate some of our guests from far away and we were seduced from the outside. During this first visit that took place with the then event manager, Charlotte, in September, we did not hide our interest by raising some concerns already at that time:
-the presence of vintage cars and a table football in the middle room through which the entrance
-the general condition of the room (flaked paint, uneven pavement floor to go to the toilet and kitchen, entrance of vegetation)
-presence of building materials and "decombustibles" on the car entrance side
For all these concerns, Charlotte reassured us by explaining that the cars, rubble etc belong to the owner of the place and would be cleared by the wedding and for the general condition of the room that it was precisely being refreshed, this was corroborated by the presence of workers on site just before our arrival.
Tired of this we confirm our estimate even if we had not been able to visit the top space (indicated for children), the caretaker house where we will stay with our parents and the new rooms are under construction.
Following this, we have no news until January 2024 where we learn of Charlotte’s departure and the arrival of a new team without having the contact information before Louise, alternately, sends us an email in February to confirm our technical visit with the DJ in March. Not being able to be present for him, she consulted with one of her colleagues Leana to replace her.
On March 23, the day of the visit arrives without any more news on our side but we travel there for the scheduled time. We arrive in front of the gate of the closed room, and a few moments later, the owner of the place leaves his house, we ask him if he is there to show us around, he tells us that no and that Leana should arrive soon. 15 minutes later, after trying to call the number of the room manager, the DJ arrives and still nobody to open us... So we decide to go directly to the equestrian domain 1km away and surprised, we learn by Karine that Leana no longer works for them and that another team is in charge of the event. Karine moves to open the portal and leaves us alone with the DJ to visit. After 1:30 with the DJ, as we are about to leave, Cécile the manager arrives to give us 2-3 additional information and redo an explanation of the different rooms to the DJ. During this 2nd visit which does not complete much (lots of information to fetch or tests said to be done “on the same day of the wedding in the presence of the managers of the room ex fumigation or electrical voltage), the new manager responsible for customer relations, Maxence calls me and apologizes for not having been present the transmissions that were not complete with his predecessor. Due to this impromptu arrival, we were again unable to visit the upstairs space and all the beds.
On the spot, Cécile confirmed again that rubble outside and cars and table football would be removed for our wedding, as far as the work is concerned, we have not seen any change in the state of the room since the first visit yet more workers on site.
After the DJ, it is the turn of the caterer to want to make a technical visit, we tried to contact throughout the month of April and part of May Maxence to schedule it, calls remained unanswered and messages also left unanswered. So we decided to call the accounting department directly for a solution, as Maxence’s number was the only one we had been given, the person who answered said it was indeed strange that we were left unanswered and would investigate this. 48 hours later, finally a call from Maxence allowing us to schedule an appointment.
May 28 technical visit with the caterer unlike last time, we were expected and were able to visit the whole place with the floor and the caretaker house, the caterer was able to see what he needed and have the necessary information. Nevertheless, he recalled a negative point, the access to the kitchen from the room with its uneven cobbles, Maxence also notes with dismay saying that he tries to see with the owner to modify this, in any case the temporary solution is to be provided at our expense to reduce the risk of falling. We return to a point already mentioned, the lack of change of state of the room despite the presence of workers in September 2023, by visiting the floor we understood, it is the space that was redone because serving as offices for the equestrian center. New objects clutter the room and part of the car entrance: new windows but not for the reception place deposited anywhere preventing a good visualization of the space (not always forgetting the presence of cars and table football). After the technical visit of the caterer, we left with Maxence to visit the rooms for guests, there, nothing to say they are perfect.
During this visit, we took Maxence’s email to remind us in writing of our need for refrigerators, tables and access to places like the floor (and the need for codes to enter the place and rooms).
On July 15, 5 days before the wedding, new email from Maxence asking us if we needed access to the floor for the children’s area, we simply answer that yes without recalling that this had already been mentioned several times.
The day before the wedding, although we communicated our time of arrival, we find ourselves alone, we do not seek to know more and begin the installation of our decoration but notice several elements that were wrong:
For minors:
-cars still present even if more in the room, they were simply put outside (at the same time hiding one of the new windows mentioned above)
-the table football simply shifted at the toilet and not removed, we had to move it more in the corner not to hinder the passage
-half of the rooms in the children’s area were inaccessible: the kitchen and sleeping area in particular, remained only the toilet and the large room where we managed to make the play area and sleeping space for children
-the lack of the number of fridges requested as well as high chairs for babies, fortunately for this, Maxence came to fix a plumbing problem in the bathroom of the caretaker’s house and we were able to inform him and he brought us what we needed (it goes without saying that we had tried to call him before but without answer)
For larger problems:
-the room had not been cleaned, we had to do it ourselves
-after a while, a group of ten people entered without even saying hello and goes directly upstairs (already prepared for the children), the groom goes upstairs to explain that the place was reserved entirely for the weekend and is surprised that they were not informed. He was told that they were offices, that they were not informed that the top was part of the rental and that we were not allowed to see certain elements present, that they would collect them and then call Maxence to find out why they had not had the information. (at the cost of the room, we find it logical to have the whole place for a weekend especially when alternatives exist, another example of the lack of professionalism...)
-Finally, in the caretaker’s house, once the decoration of the room is finished, while we were setting up our things for the next evening, we discover the toilet on the floor not cleaned and completely blocked, we call Maxence by phone but no answer.
We finally arrive at D-Day, during the meal (around 9 pm), due to a problem of pipes, the kitchen and toilet were overflowing with water. The caterer had to take a break in the service between the starter and the main course to sponge and avoid falls (the kitchen being flooded, water came out on the carpets put to prevent falls on the pavers). With one of the witnesses, we try to call all the numbers we have, only one answers, that of Karine who can do nothing contact Maxence (certainly on another number for him to answer). Maxence arrived 10 minutes later with 2 other people but did nothing denying the plugging of the pipes at first until a guest came out of the toilet and the water from them followed her. Then after accusing the caterer of lying, they find that the kitchen sink seal is missing and accuse the caterer of stealing it. Fortunately, the caterer accompanied by the bridesmaids calmed the situation in the kitchen, which was beginning to become a powder magazine. Seeing that nothing would be done by Maxence and his associates (such as calling an emergency plumber), the caterer explained that he was returning to duty but that in case of breakage or injury, the place would be responsible. The manager and his 2 companions went back there. Another big thank you to the caterer for managing this and making up for the shortfalls of another provider without the guests noticing anything continuing the service while cleaning the kitchens. Congratulations to them!
Fortunately, the dishes were enough to avoid cleaning between two sets as the sinks remained clogged again the next day when we left.
Finally, the next day, for coffee, we had to fill the water on the side of the caretaker’s house, the kitchen sinks being always filled and then stored without either side trying to contact us. We left at 16:15 without seeing anyone from the room, leaving the place (except the toilet and kitchen) cleaner than we had found it and since then we have not heard from anyone.
Point apart for the rooms: in the news where were most of the guests nothing to say except for the 206 where due to the rain that fell at night there was a water seepage on the other hand in the caretaker’s house, it should be noted the lack of curtains for the room and bathroom located on the ground floor and also the cleanliness of the bed linen that was not at the appointment (stains and holes).
