Fabulous wish we stayed longer
A particularly beautiful Maison d'Hote close to the river, Or room was beautifully furnished with excellent linen and towels. Noteworthy is that in our three week visit to France this place had the best towels, luxurious, soft and large - a treat it seems when in France. The toiletries provided were also more than adequate being Occitane. Our room (Penelope) had doors onto the terrace on which breakfast is served. Breakfast is excellent. The hosts are also charming and helpful. As the title says I wish we had the time to have stayed longer. We shall definitely return.

Nice rooms, acceptable food and breakfast
The rooms are sufficiently large and spotlessly clean, nicely decorated and comfortable, with small mini-bar.
Home made diner (not on Saturdays, do not know about sundays) is acceptable but not haute cuisine. Breakfest is typically french but of good quality. Did not use the outdoor swimming pool because of the weather but it looked nice.

Delightful
My husband and I spent a wonderful night in Le Clos du Chene recently. We had spent the previous two nights in a luxury five star hotel in Lyon, which we left early because of noise and poor accessibility. The peace and tranquility of Le Clos du Chene was superb and the hosts restored our faith in French hospitality. We were made feel very welcome and the room and services were excellent. We enjoyed a lovely afternoon by the beautiful pool.
The recommendation for dinner was excellent and the breakfast next morning was perfect. We left this lovely property reluctantly but hope to return to sample the delights that the hosts Cheryl and Michel offer at Le Clos du Chene.

remarkable
My wife and I commented after leaving the Clos du Chene that it is very rare indeed not to have a single negative comment to make about a hotel. Normally, either service is good but price is a bit steep. Or the price is right but the bed is a bit small or... Here, everything was perfect: the design of the family suite (on two levels), the bed and mattress, the warm welcome, the swimming pool. Just perfect. Simple but perfect. Thanks!!!

A wonderful countryside escape
We recently stayed at Le Clos du Chene for one night after leaving Lyon and slowly following the Saone River to Saint Bernard. The website is perfectly accurate -- it is a small property on a slope leading to the Saone - with rooms in a separate building towards the back of the property. The buildling consists of a large living room, dining area, kitchen (where they prepare dinners and breakfasts), outdoor patio (where we ate both meals) and rooms on the ground and 1st floor.
I had selected a room on the 1st floor and it far exceeded my expectations. It was huge, beautifully decorated in French country style, wood floor, sitting area, good sized balcony with table and chairs, large bathroom with skylight and beautiful fixtures (and Occitane products!), flat screen TV and free internet. From the room/balcony, we could see over the horse paddocks to the river, and see boat traffic on the river as well. Very green, very quiet and very lovely. A lot like being guests in someone's home.
That night, the owners served dinner (since there were more than 6 guests I think) on the patio, setting individual tables on the patio. We had a lovely 4 course meal (foie gras and haricot verts starter, beef kebabs and vegetables, cheese, and creme brulee) with a lot of personal attention from the owners, including help with local wines. It was absolutely beautiful as the sun went down and candles were lit.
The next morning, we had breakfast outside -- a large basket of breads and croissants, fresh squeezed orange juice, coffee and a small buffet with yogurt, cheese, cereal and fruit. It was totally relaxing -- and led to more conversations with the owners. They are there for a chat if you wish, but they also respect your privacy and never hover over you.
The place is so lovely and quiet that I'd have been happy using it as a home base for a few days. There is a restaurant in the village, so if the hotel is not serving, one could certainly walk or drive over. It might be a little too quiet for more than a night or two, but it was absolutely perfect for a night in the country with river view. And it was definitely one of the best rooms we've ever had, anywhere in Europe, especially for a country house. The owners have paid attention to details (an electric kettle in the room!) and are very helpful.
