An historic B & B with lovely atmosphere

This manor home is a gorgeous museum of a B & B and Maria and Bill, were kind, making us feel welcome and gave us a good history of their home. The breakfast, shared with other guests, was delicious with gorgeous goat's cheeses and jams, in the most outstanding room of frescos. If you are looking for 4star accommodation with all amenities and a faceless anonymous stay, this will not be the place for you. However, if you want an experience and are willing to overlook any rough around the edges aspects. It is a little jewel on the river.

What a beautiful place

We loved this place. The castle, the decoration of another era, the view of the Loire.
You are welcomed by charming people
You fall asleep lulled by the sound of water.
The delicious breakfast is taken in a BEAUTIFUL room.
Thank you.

Bitter disappointment

We reserved rooms in 6 chateaus and country mansions during a 10-day tour of Western France, of which this was the only serious disappointment, despite being one of the most expensive
It is a very run down building, poorly appointed and furnished.
Ironically it occupies a superb position on the banks of the Loire, but feels more like a hostel for migrants or homeless people than holiday accommodation.
Its front and rear elevations are seriously dilapidated, the front drive is festooned with broken garden furniture and the rear garden is a desolate wilderness.
Inside, the furniture and fittings are similarly dilapidated, and towels and bed linen inexcusably tired.
The trumpeted ‘gourmet breakfast’ was served to all guests on one large dining table, still bearing the remnants of earlier breakfasts, and food was served on small single plates, inviting a free-for-all, rather than allocated to individual families.
Indeed, for our breakfast sitting we had three boiled eggs provided for four people. However, any request for replenishment was met with an audible sigh.
To be avoided at all costs.

Very good stay

We had a pleasant stay in a magnificent and calm setting with the singing of little birds.
Very warm welcome from Bill and Maria who are kind and welcoming people. Our romantic room was pretty and clean, good bedding and good pillows.
Excellent breakfast with good products and delicious pudding.
Very good address, I recommend Colliers.

Unforgettable stay

The “motif” written on the top of the front door (translated by the manager) could sum up our stay at the Château de Colliers: "I like it here because I feel good."
We had booked for 2 nights the suite Chevalier de Béla on the occasion of our 45 years of marriage that we wanted to spend alone and we were delighted (that’s the right word) with our stay. From the Reservation until our Check-out, it was only kind of Maria and Bill Tambey (the stage managers) and Mr and Mrs de Gélis (the owners) for whom the words “you are welcome with us” have a real meaning.
It is not a 5* Pension Castle, one of those chic and sleek places where “you have to be seen and show yourself”, it is a magnificent family home that has always been inhabited by members of the “de Gélis” family for more than 240 years and whose doors are open to us in the form of traditional guest rooms.
Not everything may be completely perfect and the current owners (who have only recently taken over the torch) are aware of it. Some renovations and modifications are planned, but “Paris was not done in a day”
The rooms are comfortable and very clean, they are furnished in the old style which does not prevent them from being very well equipped (modern furnishings are not suitable for castles that have such a beautiful history). A generous courtesy tray is available in the room (with a kettle) and the bedding is of good quality. From the windows, the views of the Loire are superb (don’t forget your binoculars to observe nature and especially the animals that populate the banks of the river).
Breakfasts (served in the sumptuous dining room) are rich, with fresh and varied products. We tested the evening meal trays to make the most of the wonderful setting and it was two very pleasant evenings that allowed us to have a moment of exchange, in all simplicity, with the stage managers as well as with Mr and Mrs de Gélis (who told us the story of the castle and its past inhabitants)
The rooms on the ground floor (entrance hall, hallways, small and large lounges, dining room) are beautifully furnished (the exact reflection of the photos on the website). It is a castle like the ones you usually visit, but in this one you have the privilege of sleeping there too.
All the speakers (stewards and owners) are absolutely adorable people who put all their hearts into making your stay as pleasant as possible, see (as for us) unforgettable and we thank them for it.
This house has a soul. There is no doubt that the current owners will continue to live and develop it. We were absolutely delighted to have chosen the Castle of Colliers and to meet its current occupants. We can also say: “We liked it here because we felt good.”
You will have understood that we recommend this address to all lovers of castles who have kept all their authenticity and charm of yesteryear, and to not spoil anything, the castle is located close to many places of visits.
