Great base for a fab Esprit ski holiday
The hotel had a lovely feel to it, with a comfy bar area, small but pleasant rooms with great bathrooms and lovely views from the balcony. We had rooms 3 and 4 which were on the same floor as the bar and reception but suited us perfectly as we could keep an eye on our room on New Year's Eve after baby listening had finished at 10.30pm and we never had any issues with noise from inside the hotel.
The dinner arrangements were great with children having high tea at 5pm, then for the adults it was prosecco at 7.30pm and dinner at 8. You had to choose dinner at breakfast which meant we knew what we had to look forward to! The food on the most part was good with a fantastic 6 course gala dinner with Champagne before and after on NYE. Breakfast was buffet style and plentiful. Bar prices I thought were a bit expensive but we had plenty of wine during dinner, which was very drinkable!
The mornings getting the children off to ski school were a little chaotic as not much room but the Esprit staff are fantastic and made sure everyone was there before taking them off to lessons. Snow club is in the hotel and the children did arts and crafts, games, went out in the snow, etc. when not in lessons. Final day is family skiing in the morning which was fun and we also took our daughters on the toboggan run at Les Bergers.
On the staff night off we got pizzas for our daughters from Alaska across the road then took advantage of the baby listening for a romantic dinner for two at Edelweiss behind the hotel!
This was our 3rd trip with Esprit but first time to Alpe d'Huez. We loved the resort and although it didn't snow whilst we were there they maintained the pistes really well and we had bluebird skies all week! The variety of pistes was great and we enjoyed some good mountain lunches and a vin chaud at Le Spot on the way home a couple of times! We also visited the Ice Grotto up the mountain. An interesting visit for 5.5 euro per adult.
Would highly recommend the hotel, the resort and Esprit. I'm sure we'll be back and hope Esprit renew this hotel for next season.

Great first family ski holiday thanks to Esprit
Childcare was first rate. 2 of my children have severe food allergies and the management teams were on the ball for awareness and training for allergies and are epipen-trained which was very reassuring.
Kids going to ski school and snow club really enjoyed the program and games, especially with the snow rangers (thanks Ellie).
Evenings were very relaxing as the kids were in the room with the staff listening service and we had lovely dinners with delicious food and great vegetarian options.
Would recommend this holiday to anyone with kids.
Thnaks to the manager Rainier and the rest of the Esprit Team!

Comfortable hotel
The rooms are comfortable, we had room 110 which comprises 3 sleeping areas (twin room, bunk bed, sofa bed), with a balcony. There was a bathroom with a bath and large vanity, separate WC and separate shower. This was really useful as there were 5 of us in our family.
The esprit staff were fabulous with our group. We were staying with another family too in this hotel.
I would recommend for good value accommodation, close to ski lifts, restaurants and shops.

Good first experience with Esprit
The staff were on the whole excellent and great with the kids. The wrap around care for the kids is fantastic if you want to stay on the slopes all day - they take them off in the morning (carrying all their skis for them) and bring them back for lunch. The only downside is the snow club in the afternoon is more like a nursery - they do get out a bit but the majority of the time was spent inside playing lego etc, which was disappointing given how glorious the weather was when we were there in late March. They could definitely do more outdoor activities to keep the kids interested after morning ski school.
One point of note for this location is it's a very slow yoghurt pot lift up to the slopes, which is fine once a day but if you are coming back to meet the kids after lunch and take them skiing, you will lose the best part of an hour from your day. Nothing Esprit can do about that, but worth noting this isn't anywhere near ski-in/ski-out (or wasn't when we were there).
Plus points included decent choice of food and wine each evening and a fantastic baby/child listening service with one person dedicated to each floor, basically sat there all evening listening for crying kids. The ski hire shop is right under the hotel too, so nice and easy upon arrival.
Overall we really enjoyed it and would use Esprit again, although probably not the Mariandre purely because of the location.

Great for parents who love skiing/riding but now have kids in tow!
The chalet is ski in/ski out and we had no problems getting to or from the main slopes on either skis or snowboard. That the chalet is set back from the road meant that it was safe for the kids to walk out and play in the snow. Because the chalet has a ski run within 30m, but isn't located on a busy main lift route, we felt comfortable taking our 2.5yo out on skis right outside the chalet.
It isn't perfect and there are areas for improvement. This is still a chalet staffed by young adults so don't expect 5-star service. The food is good but sometimes hit and miss, the rooms are on the small side and could do with more storage space, drinks at the bar are pricey, it did sometimes feel chaotic with parents and children all trying to get ready at the same time in the limited space available. Perhaps towels could have been changed more frequently, but when our little one threw up her dinner on the sheets, house keeping changed the bedding straight away and didn't make a fuss about it or make us feel embarrassed.
This is a family friendly chalet that met our needs at this time and we would return again because of the location, setup and staff. As avid skiers/riders we are thankful that this set up allows the adults to ski all day with the peace of mind that your children are in good care. Thank you Sarah and the team for another relatively stress free holiday at the snow (as good as you can get with young kids in tow!). As a returning customer, I would wholeheartedly recommend a stay at this chalet.
