Wine, wonderful staff, dangerously comfortable beds… and unexpectedly excellent beer
We stayed here while undertaking the exhausting task of spending two days touring the vineyards of Bordeaux and drinking excellent wine. Someone has to make these sacrifices.
Hôtel de Sèze turned out to be the perfect place to recover.
The location is fantastic – right in the heart of things – and the rooms are superb: large, spacious, beautifully clean and with everything you could possibly need.
And then there are the beds. OMG. Possibly the most comfortable hotel bed we have ever encountered. After a full day of wine tasting, climbing into it was absolute heaven. Getting back out again the following morning was considerably less appealing.
Thankfully, breakfast was worth getting up for. It was genuinely excellent, but what really made it special were the two wonderful women serving breakfast. Friendly, cheerful and welcoming every morning – exactly what you need when you may have spent the previous day taking your responsibilities towards Bordeaux wine rather too seriously.
The reception team were exceptional too. Nothing was ever too much trouble. Everyone was warm, helpful and genuinely seemed to want you to enjoy your stay. The staff throughout the hotel are a huge credit to the place.
And one unexpected discovery: the local beer on tap at the hotel bar was superb – actually the best beer I had anywhere in Bordeaux. After two days surrounded by some of the world's greatest wines, it feels slightly inappropriate to mention this… but there it is.
Fantastic location, lovely big rooms, wonderful breakfast, brilliant staff, dangerously comfortable beds and the best beer I found in Bordeaux.
We absolutely loved this hotel and would return in a heartbeat. Although next time I may have to pretend the trip is about wine again when really I'm coming back for the bed and the beer. ️

Mixed experience!
The management, on the other hand, is more at a youth hostel level. Because of a surgery, I arrived on crutches. Not a single question as to whether someone could help me with my suitcase. In the room there were coffee powder packets, not a Nespresso machine at that price. And the delivery of breakfast to the room was also supposed to be charged extra.
