Cheap and central

I spent one night here with three family members. Cost and location were the two most important factors for me, and on those two points Hostel 31 delivers in spades -- for two small double rooms (without windows, one single bed per person) I paid 74 euros (70 GBP or $85) -- that's less than 19 euros / 18 GBP / $22 per person -- and the hostel is within walking distance of pretty much everything you might want to do during a short stay in Tallinn (the ferry terminal, Old Town, the ghastly Mall of Tallinn, Kadriorg Park). So, like I said, for me it delivered. Potential downsides: I deliberately booked rooms without windows figuring that for one night that's okay. For me it was fine, but some of my family members minded the rooms' warmth and the fact that the air conditioning (which worked fine) was audible. With these cheapest rooms you share a WC and separate shower, but there were two of both on our floor, so there was never a queue and everything was clean, with excellent water pressure in the (admittedly cramped and malodorous but clean) shower. I read the other reviews here before booking and decided to take the risk -- yes, Hostel 31 is next to a strip club; no, I did not experience any noise from any other guests or rooms. To sum up, if you are seasoned traveller who rates price and location over everything else, then Hostel 31 is a very good choice.

To forget

The reception is closed at night. There were some drunk men screaming all night. A friend of mine was molested by one of them. Smelly shower water and dirty bathrooms. Never again in a place like this.

You get what you pay for

Good location, public transportation near and not far from old town. Maxima nearby. Clean but beds don't have matress pad and pillows are terrible. Okay if you need place just for quick night of sleeping.

Hostel31-Tallinn

The hostel is close to the Old Town and city centre, but I do not suggest it to girls travelling alone, it could be dangerous. Behind the hostel there is a Striptease Club and all the hostel is full of men (also solders) going there during the night. It's not a normal hostel, but an accomodation for men going to the Striptease Club. On the page of the hostel on booking.com there is not any information about it and it's a shame.
Dirty beds and bathrooms, without any window, noisy rooms.
I do not suggest this hostel to young travellers, especially girls travelling alone.

One day and night stay here could be acceptable.

Noisy. There is no soundproofing here, all talks and movement outside my room are heard quite loud. Place is clean and comfortable, room contains two beds, one coat rack and one chair, bed linen overly washed and price is acceptable.
