August Stay
H10 Mediterranean Salou – Our Review ☀️
We’ve just come back from a stay at H10 Mediterranean Salou, so I thought I’d share an honest review — the good, the not-so-good. It's long but there's a lot to unpack!
First impressions
The reception area is lovely — open, cool and smells absolutely gorgeous. We arrived before the 3pm room access, so we checked in as much as we could, left our luggage in the luggage room and went in search of some lunch.
We ended up at La Masia Restaurant onsite. Unfortunately, the first impression from the staff wasn’t the best as they seemed a little unfriendly. The food itself was okay, although we did send back the calamari and potato prawns as they didn’t taste right.
Once 3pm came around, we headed back to reception, collected our luggage and finished checking in.
We were allocated room 677B — and WOW! It’s a bit of a trek involving two lifts, but the view more than made up for it. The balcony was huge and overlooked both the pools and the sea. If you love a good sunset, I would absolutely recommend asking for this room. You will not be disappointed! (Examples of such below)
Exploring outside the hotel
We were self-catering, so we ventured out quite a bit rather than eating onsite every night.
Just down the hill from the hotel and into Cap Salou, there are plenty of restaurants and bars. We ate at Route 66, Tropical Bar, Mex & Co and Restaurante Cap Salou and had no complaints about any of them.
We also enjoyed a drink in Grace O'Malley's, where we had a game or two of pool.
La Cala Bar, right beside Cala Font beach, is a must! I'd definitely recommend heading there around sunset — the views are beautiful.
We took the bus into main Salou a good few times. There’s a bus stop right outside the hotel and you can pick up a travel card from Bus Plana across the road, which made getting around really easy.
We also did the Monday Market in Salou. It was very busy, very hot and very crowded when we went. We didn't actually make it all the way around because it became a bit overwhelming, but it's worth experiencing if markets are your thing!
Cambrils
One of our favourite days was taking the ferry from Salou to Cambrils.
It's only around a 30-minute sail and Cambrils is absolutely beautiful. It's much slower-paced, scenic and has a lovely historic feel to it.
We stopped for food at Braseria Del Port, which was lovely.
We also had an early birthday dinner at La Barca in Salou. It's right on the beachfront and has a lovely setting for an evening meal — and of course, we had to have paella!
Back to the hotel...
The hotel is busy. In August, the pool areas can definitely feel chaotic, although I think that's partly to be expected given the time of year.
The pools don't open until 10am. We never had an issue getting sunbeds, although we did join the unofficial queue around 9:45–9:50am to make sure we got our preferred ones!
We found a spot along the back wall near the pirate ship, which was actually perfect for us because we had a clear view of the shallower parts of the pool where our 6-year-old spent most of his time.
The lifeguards were great and definitely kept an eye on things. They were quick to blow the whistle when people weren't following the rules.
There are no inflatables or balls allowed in the pools, although diving toys/aids and water guns are permitted.
Splash park
The splash park was a big hit!
It was noticeably quieter than the main pool area and had plenty of slides and things to keep the kids entertained. We never had an issue getting a sunbed there either, so if the main pool is feeling a little too hectic, it's definitely worth heading over.
Food & supermarket
The onsite supermarket is okay, but the choice could definitely be better.
We used the supermarket near the Sun Club most, but also went down towards the bars and restaurants where there's a bigger supermarket with a much better selection.
We ate by the pool a couple of times too — takeaway pizza and salad from Il Forno, and toasties and nuggets from the poolside snack bar. Perfectly fine for a quick lunch.
The biggest let-down: entertainment
This was probably our biggest disappointment with the hotel.
For a resort where so many of the guests are English-speaking, I found the children's entertainment being entirely in Spanish really difficult.
Of course, you're in Spain and I completely understand that Spanish should absolutely feature — and actually, I think a mixture would be great. But having essentially all of the kids' entertainment in Spanish meant that our child couldn't really join in or understand what was happening.
It took a lot of the fun out of the evening for us and, as a result, we found ourselves heading out of the hotel most evenings.
Especially as we were self-catering, I would have thought the hotel would want to encourage guests to stay onsite in the evenings. I really think the entertainment could be improved by having a better mix of languages and activities.
The room ️
Our room was absolutely fine for self-catering.
We had a kettle, hob, pots, pans, plates, cutlery and glasses. We didn't actually cook anything during our stay, but everything was there if we had wanted to.
The fridge was a good size too.
That said, the room itself is very basic compared with the modern reception areas. It didn't bother us too much because we weren't spending loads of time in the room, but it's worth knowing if you're expecting the rooms to have the same modern feel as the reception.
Our sheets were changed once during our stay, which was absolutely fine.
Unfortunately, my pyjamas disappeared at some point after the sheets were changed. I suspect they may have accidentally been scooped up with the linen, but sadly I never got them back!
I also felt the floors and balcony could have done with being swept more regularly. It didn't seem like these were automatically being cleaned when the room was refreshed — it appeared to be more of a bin and towel change.
⚠️ One important thing to be aware of
The shower can suddenly become extremely hot.
This happened to us and it can happen without much warning. It's something I'd be particularly mindful of if you have young children using the shower.
I really think the hotel should have a warning sticker or notice in the bathroom because it could easily cause a nasty burn.
Would we return?
Honestly... probably not.
But that's not because we had a terrible holiday — we absolutely didn't!
The facilities are great, the location is good, the pools and splash park are brilliant and, in general, the staff were lovely.
For us, though, there just wasn't enough about the hotel that made us think "we HAVE to come back here." We like exploring different places, and H10 Mediterranean just didn't quite stand out enough for us to choose it again.
Could it be better? Absolutely.
A few relatively simple changes would make a big difference:
- A site map given at check-in would make finding your way around much easier — the hotel is quite large and it takes a while to get your bearings!
- A clear warning about the shower temperature is definitely needed.
- More regular sweeping/cleaning of the room and balcony would be appreciated.
- A couple of sun loungers on the larger balconies would be a lovely addition. Our balcony had loads of space and, being on the top floor, we had nothing but sky above us — it would have been lovely to actually sit out there properly.
- And, most importantly for us, the entertainment needs a rethink.
Overall ⭐
I wouldn't say don't book this hotel. I genuinely don't think you'll have a terrible holiday here.
If you're looking for a hotel with great pools, a brilliant splash park, good facilities and easy access to Cap Salou and Salou, there's plenty to like.
Just go knowing that it's busy, particularly in August, the entertainment may not suit English-speaking children, and the rooms aren't quite as modern as the reception areas suggest.
And I think, as with any holiday, it's ultimately what you make of it. We had some lovely days, explored plenty, found some great places to eat and drink, and made some really nice memories.
For us, though, it was good rather than great — and that's why we wouldn't return. ☀️

And I think, as with any holiday, it's ultimately what you make of it. We had some lovely days, explored plenty, found some great places to eat and drink, and made some really nice memories.

Average holiday – wouldn’t return
I always read reviews before booking a holiday, and when we booked this hotel, the reviews were generally good. However, we booked quite far in advance and, looking back, I would say the more recent reviews closer to our stay are much more accurate. Had I known about some of the issues beforehand, I probably wouldn’t have booked here.
There were definitely some positives, but unfortunately the negatives outweighed them for us.
The positives:
The pool facilities are probably one of the best things about the hotel. There’s a splash park and slides, and having three different pools meant we could change things up each day rather than being around the same pool all the time. It was also really good for younger children. We had our one-year-old with us and there was plenty for her to do and enjoy, which was a big positive.
The entertainment was actually quite decent, with a good range of things on throughout the day and evening.
There is a shop on site, which was convenient, and the drinks were reasonably cheap. We stayed self-catering, so this was useful for us.
The apartments are a reasonable size. They weren’t as good as the one we stayed in earlier this year elsewhere, but they were perfectly adequate for a family of five.
We also tried the all-inclusive food and, considering some of the other aspects of our stay, it wasn’t bad. There was a decent selection and the dessert range was particularly good.
The negatives:
Unfortunately, our apartment wasn’t clean when we arrived. The floors were particularly dirty, and by day three, after my children’s feet were coming out dirtier from walking around the apartment than they were from being outside, I had to ask for the floors to be cleaned.
Two of my children also cut their feet while in the pool, which was obviously concerning and put a bit of a dampener on what should have been an enjoyable part of the holiday.
The majority of the staff weren’t particularly friendly or welcoming, with the exception of the ladies working at the bar, who were lovely.
There also isn’t a huge amount around the hotel. The restaurants nearby weren’t particularly good for the prices they charged, so we found ourselves getting taxis into Salou, which cost around €10 each way.
If you’ve ever seen the videos/reels of people running to get sunbeds as soon as the pool opens, this is one of those hotels. You physically can’t access the pool area until 10am, so everyone heads down at the same time to get a sunbed. With three children who wake up early, this simply wasn’t practical for us, and it’s not something I want to have to worry about or participate in when I’m on holiday.
The food at the pool bar also wasn’t particularly good, and unfortunately the staff there were quite rude on more than one occasion.
Overall:
It wasn’t a terrible holiday, and there were certainly some positives, particularly the pool facilities and how well set up the hotel is for younger children. However, there were too many little issues that, when added together, made the holiday less enjoyable than we had hoped.

Just going home after another amazing 2 weeks at this beautiful hotel all the staff are very friendly and the entertainment team are fantastic they engaged with everyone no matter what the age and always used to make us smile 10/10 looking forward to coming back next year

Avoid
Been coming here last five years and unfortunately have to say this year will be the last!! Mouldy room with broken shower that we had to hold up with hair tie. Now the shower was fixed on last night however the hotel then denied all knowledge of this. Room was outdated and smelt of damp and had viable damp on walls and ceiling. Entertainment this year was all so lacking so we spent are time in the sunclub next door. Outdoor toilets are not hygienics. Reception area is beautiful and the doorman was lovely and kind and welcoming.

We've had another fantastic two weeks here at the H10 Mediterranean village all the staff go above and beyond the entertainment team were 10 out of 10 couldn’t do enough they got everyone involved, always putting a smile on everybody's faces no matter what age you may be already booked for next year. Can’t wait to come back.
