A hotel with Madrid soul and unique style
We stayed at Alonso Martínez's Avani Hotel last Christmas and the experience could not be better. From the beginning you can notice that the hotel is practically new, with impeccable facilities and a careful design to detail.
The decor is undoubtedly one of its strengths: it has an urban style, with that street touch but at the same time chic that fits perfectly with the spirit of Madrid. Every corner conveys personality and makes you feel connected to the city even without leaving the hotel.
The breakfast buffet deserves special mention. It is spectacular, with many options for all tastes and all of great quality. Nice to start the day like this.
And what to say about the rooms: just amazing. Spacious, modern and with attention to detail that makes a difference. Everything is designed to make the stay comfortable and special.
Definitely a 5 star hotel in every way. We would repeat without thinking.

Great Hospitality, rooms are Ok
Overall, the stay was fine, but there are two things I wish I had known before booking.
The mattress was incredibly firm, to the point where it felt more like sleeping on a padded cot than a hotel bed. If you like an extra firm mattress, this may not bother you, but it had a noticeable impact on our comfort and sleep quality.
The other thing to be aware of is that some standard rooms appear to have little to no natural light. We were eventually moved to a different room, which we greatly appreciated, but even that room had limited natural light. Throughout our stay, we often found ourselves wondering whether it was actually overcast outside because so little daylight made it into the room. There was no indication during booking that this could be the case. For some travelers that won’t matter, but for others it can significantly affect the overall experience.
There was also some construction noise during our stay, although that felt more like bad timing than an issue with the property itself.
On a positive note, the staff was wonderful throughout our stay. Everyone we interacted with was genuinely kind, helpful, and accommodating. Their hospitality was easily the highlight of the experience.

Quirky hotel in central Madrid
This was my first stay at the Avani Alonso Martinez, and I found the hotel quite charming. Local artists are featured throughout the lobby, and there is a vending machine featuring Madrid landmarks on small card stock.
The staff at the hotel was friendly, welcoming and always available to assist. The check-in process was smooth, as was the check-out process. The location is amazing, and easily walkable to Gran Via, Plaza Mayor, Retiro Park or the Paseo del Prado. If walking is not your thing, there is a metro stop right outside the door of the hotel.

Very central hotel that loses due to the unfriendliness and attention of the reception staff
Unlike most NH hotels, of which I am a regular user, the first experience at the Avani Alonso left much to be desired, and not because of the hotel facilities or breakfast services or others, which are very correct, but because of the unfriendliness of the reception staff, without any details and any attention despite being a customer of many years of the chain and having booked two rooms. And even without raising facilities to be able to hold a video conference while waiting for the rooms to be delivered, without wanting to turn down the ambient music of the hall, for example. And the truth is, with the prices skyrocketing a little surprising, especially by comparison, because my experience in most of NH, Anantara or others are magnificent in general.
