€ 8.00 per person a day: what do you expect?

We had read all the positive and negative comments about this hotel, so we imagined what we where going to find. As a matter of fact, our ground-floor room was not a real hotel room, but probably a previous garage or shop changed into a room with a double bed and an en-suite bathroom for disables.
Clean enough, quiet enough, accettable linen, no soap/shampoo/hairdrier, no TV, no reception (you MUST call the landlady on the phone), very very near the Alhambra, it is Ok if
- you want to spend little money
- you want to stay in the city centre
- you have a good spirit of adaptibility.
What else for € 8.00 a person a day?

Escapes It is not an accommodation

We came across this property (I don't know how to define it) I don't know cost because it was part of a combined package of certain I was aware of finding a one star service but we would fit clearly for one night, we were not interested in luxury service but here we are on the edge of horror! Knocking for two hours (there is no intercom) at the end an old man with a masked beard and dark glasses opened us. Now I understand, even from the comments of nearby merchants why on the internet there are three different names of this "pension" and some give it permanently closed!
There are chains on the windows all dark and smelly at high levels. They don't give you towels or a key to the door and gate. A cold terrible humidity on the windows!
I recommend to seriously evaluate this structure

To be avoided absolutely

1 star because I can't give zero. Not so much for the rooms, but for the treatment. Rude and aggressive. No heating, no keys to lock the rooms. To get into the hotel you had to knock and hope someone heard. The dirty and smelly entrance. It's not worth a euro.

The House of Horrors

The hostel of horrors, no, next thing. A very old building. The entrance is a blind door that doesn't even have a doorbell, you have to knock and they open you. We were opened by a very old gentleman, wearing a mask, dark glasses and a woolly hat, which means you don't even put a face on it. Next to him a very old lady, who watched and did not speak, I do not know something typical of horror movies.
The hall, to call it somehow, dirty, very dark, and a rather unpleasant smell of damp. We pass to the room, quite small, antique, without wardrobes, a bed that moved only with a blow, and the typical blankets of our grandmothers (I already fit more than 50 years), yellow sheets, and little more of the bedroom. The bathroom very small and that to be able to look in the mirror, the mini bathtub hindered you.
Already my partner and I, we looked amazed at what we were seeing, but still unreacted. He explains that to open the door from the inside, it was done by a latch, okay, but to enter we have to call him to open us the, ???, like??, they do not give you a key to the room. And he asks us what time we are going to arrive at night, that he opens the hostel for us, but that if we were one hour away, that could not be before or after, that had to be at that time. Thirty-five years ago my parents used to set me an arrival time, but at this point in my life, I kind of didn't. Once he told us all that, he left, well, I didn't even stop to look at the cleaning or anything else, I wasn't interested in looking at anything.
One detail I didn’t like at all, is that he didn’t even ask us for IDs, when I only gave mine in the reservation, and not my partner’s, I didn’t like that detail.
Once we left there it would be 5 minutes after we arrived, my partner told me that we stayed in the car to sleep, that she didn’t sleep there, and I told her that neither did I, that we were looking for somewhere else and nothing else, I didn’t care about losing the money from the night there.
I hired to look for something economical because we were going to the Manuel Carrasco concert, and I just wanted something decent to sleep one night, but that's not decent.
I have stayed in thousands of places, of different categories, a whole week in hostels in Galicia, for 50 euros a night, and all clean, decent and habitable places.
Finally, I went to pick up the suitcase and went somewhere else.
The description of my experience has been gentle, imagine that multiplied by 10.
Not that it's not recommended, it's prohibitive. And eye, I wasn't treated badly at any time, they were relatively nice, but the place is inhumane for a stay.

Average Hostel

My partner and I recently stayed at the Pension Azahar.
The hostel itself was ok - super basic and fairly clean, and it had everything we needed for a couple of nights' stay. Please note that this place does not have a reception - something we didn't know prior to arriving, nor were there any notes about this at the time of booking. After 30 minutes of trying to find the reception, we called the number on our booking form and spoke to a man who helpfully directed us to the key to our room (he had hidden it behind a fire extinguisher). We were lucky because my boyfriend is a fluent Spanish speaker, but God knows how anyone who doesn't speak Spanish would have found the key!
Location-wise, it is on a hill, so it is not recommended for anyone who may need help walking. It is very close to the Alhambra (about 5-10 mins walk), and about 10 minutes walk from pubs and bars. It cost about €8 in the taxi to get to the Granada bus terminal.
We didn't have wifi during our stay.
Overall, it wasn't an unpleasant stay and my boyfriend and I would have no issues staying here again.
