Luxury in Luxor

The name of this beautiful villa overlooking the Nile River means a gathering place for family, and that's exactly how we were treated by its generous and kind staff. They cooked sumptuous meals, left our rooms immaculate, did our laundry, and even helped find a doctor and get prescriptions when needed.
The vaulted brick ceilings (including one in our room), elegant common rooms, roof top lounge, and balconies with panoramic views made this a wonderful place to stay.
Only two rooms have private bathrooms. The others share two common bathrooms on the second floor. A hair dryer is available to share, as are an iron and ironing board, all in the very large second floor hallway (more like a room with couches, bookshelves with books to borrow and more). Bring your own bar of soap and shampoo. Only a bottle of hand wash is provided in each bathroom. Plenty of towels and wash cloths.
Breakfasts included eggs in a crepe-like shape, cheese, fruit, bread, jams, honey, coffee, tea, and boxed juices (orange, mango, guava, and apple). Dinners started with homemade soups, hummus and salad, followed by meat, rice, potatoes, vegetables, and finished with dessert (elegant tarts, simple fruits or once a decadent chocolate mousse).
The villa's pool was too cold for a swim when we were there, but it must be lovely in warmer months. Still, the pool deck was a nice place to gather as was the roof top for a pre-dinner glass of wine. Stroll the street for a glimpse of life in the small village, but be aware you'll be approached by children saying "hello" and asking for money. Bring lots of pens or individually wrapped candies to hand out instead of cash.
Major sites are all within a 20 minute drive or so. It's easy to get around yet out of the hustle and bustle of downtown Luxor.
Don't forget to tip the staff upon departure. They deserved a reward for all their efforts to make us feel at home.

Warm and wonderful place.

The staff! Became friends in short order. Still in touch with them. Warm and welcoming souls. Actually laughed and danced with them! Location likely best in the Luxor area if you want to experience real local village culture with a view of the city across the river. Clean, airy, and homey feeling with a touch of luxury for my usual standards of affordability. Stay here! Tip well! Just don't book the time that I want to stay when I return! 5:30 PM call to prayer from the roof - Unforgettable.

This is The place to stay.

Last winter I stayed here for the 5th time. Nothing I've seen compares. Right on the banks of the Nile with an excellent staff and a chef who can cook marvelous meals it lacks for nothing. The staff will take care of all your needs and arrange a water taxi to take you across to noisy Luxor. I love the calm of the west bank.

Very unique, adorable!

This is a villa with one room at the ground floor and five at the first, it is for big groups like 10-15 people but truly awesome place to stay. If you are traveling with group without any doubts book this place. Views from the roof top in the night are truly mesmerizing when Valley of the Kings and beach of Nile get sodden in night lights. Do not miss a chance to spend sometime with the owner of the place he is wonderful company to have even if you are with group of friends. Food was delicious, very well cooked and nicely served. All rooms are for double hence spacious and large, great care has been taken to appoint them with modern amenities so that they do not get stuffed with useless items but still have whatever guest may need. I have stayed in hotels and in resorts at different places but my experience over here was incomparable, it is not a super fancy or gilded place like 6 or 7 star hotels but its uniqueness, great comfort, serenity and excellent services make it opulent.

The only place I have given all "excellent" to.

I have stayed at the Villa al Diwan four times and I would not consider staying anywhere else in Luxor. The staff and management arranged for all our needs and showed us unsurpassed hospitality. The water taxi right to our door, the van and driver even the restaurant, shops and side trip recommendations were the best. The meals served at the villa were also great. Everyone in our group loved it.
