Cheap, open very late to let us in after a long traumatic journey. Very uncomfortable beds but welcome. Breakfast ok.

We three middle aged guys from London arrived at this hostel at 00:16 after twelve hours on the road from Asyut (300km) - see below.
As we were not sure we would even get to Luxor we booked the cheapest triple room we could find. The journey was proving expensive (4000 in the end by taxis) so we were making up lost money too.
On our arrival a couple of girls from Algeria had arrived via a twelve hour taxi from Cairo airport. We were all exhausted.
The cheerful guy on the desk checked is in saying we could go to the roof to relax and have a drink. We went to our room two floors up.
The room 200 was very basic: small, a double and single bed squeezed in. A narrow gap to get to the very basic shower-room/toilet combi (as usual). Two small towels were laid out in a heart for us with a roll of toilet paper in the centre, cute but there were three of us booked in. There was no bin in the room or the toilet (later seen in the corridor).
For once there was no dodgy electric socket in the shower room. A window opened into the central building space for ventilation.
The room proved to have only one single broad pin socket by the light switch. Any plug almost fell out making charging our very flat phones and battery packs en masse impossible. In the morning nothing had charged as the extension lead plug had popped out... not a good start!
An overhead fan was controlled by a huge dial above the light switch/electric socket combi.
The walls and back of the door had lots of hooks thankfully to keep things out of the way and off the floor (hooks seem to be annoyingly rare in the usual hotels).
The beds were probably the most lumpy and badly dressed I've had the pleasure of sleeping in. We were all so exhausted from the trauma of the journey [broken down cheap InDrive taxi, five hours in a service station to say irreparable (then multiple attempts ordering a replacement at a reasonable cost), then turned back at the police desert road check (as it was night by then and the drivers' and cars' names did not match records) so had to go on old roads through villages with speed humps every 500m] that we just fell asleep at 02:00 (after catching up on their very slow wi-fi).
Before sleeping I popped up to the roof terrace (another four stories) expecting a bit of hostel atmosphere with a soft drinks bar but found an empty cold untidy tatty terrace with an unused kitchen corner. I returned downstairs. It may be busier high season.
We slept well as it was quiet but a lot of tossing and turning (fitting into someone else's shape) meant that in the morning it was revealed two of us were sleeping on the bare dirty mattress!
We did not bother showering as it was not inviting enough. It needed a good powerclean, including the walls.
We left the room for breakfast to find a cleaner waiting for us to leave. In her bad English she asked to clean the room but all our stuff was still in it so we said no.
We turned up at the lobby for breakfast at 9:35. Another tubby cheerful guy was running the show, with two small boys preparing and serving the relatively generous breakfast. Sweet (hot dog type) rolls, nicely presented salad, soft sour cream-cheese, spam (we are veggies and it did not look good..a nibble confirmed it), bananas, jam and sliced orange were provided on the small table. Flies were an issue. As well as a prayers TV channel playing constantly whilst the manager wandered around with his own EgyptPop playing loudly on his phone so it was not a relaxing breakfast. The Egyptian coffee took a while to arrive and was insipid. Other guests were checking out or eating so it was quite busy.
In the lobby we found one of the two sockets (another guest's phone was charging) to attempt to charge our devices/battery packs but the same issue of plug loose in the socket meant intermittent charging (the roof was best as long as the master switch was on).
After breakfast we went to the room and split up. Two of us went to the to oof terrace to attempt to charge our devices.
I found a young worker was sleeping under blankets in the corner. I managed to set up charging my devices on the terrace sockets turning on the master switch first). This is where I am writing this review, in the morning sun (with shade) before checking out to a normal hotel. The flies are everywhere but I am managing to charge my phone and get a swapping 5G /LTE signal here on my eSIM. Roosters on a nearby roof were crowing and prayers ensnared from the mosques. The trains bellowed their horns but the car beeps were muted.
The chairs were whicker style with nails sticking out which ripped my friend's trousers, he was not happy. Such simple things need fixing! Most workers are not bothered.
A guy turned up to sit down and have a smoke. As non smokers we were surrounded by his smoke.
On meeting our friend back in the room for checkout he said he was hassled by the cleaner to leave the room so she could clean it. It was not clean in the first place and the sheets were an issue. The toilet certainly was not clean when e we arrived. He was not happy. We handed her the keys at 11:30 sharp and all went to the roof to sort our checking in early into our usual hotel style.
We left the premises at 12:20, a manager bad us farewell and asked of we slept well. Yes we did! He then asked us to give him a good review on b.c.
It did the job as it was cheap and reception was open late at night, just as well with our trauma getting there.
