Nice place to stay in Otovalo.

The hostal owner/manager is very helpful and welcoming. The rooms are large and each has a bathroom. The location is GREAT for visiting the old section of Otavalo, and the view from the rooftop is Beautiful. The only drawback are the dogs barking at night.

NOT SERIOUS ABOUT THE RESERVATIONS

My name is Pablo Castelo. I am an American writer/artist. I have used this hotel from 2018 to 2022. I have seen two owners administering the hotel. My stays have varied from one month to one whole year, so I have seen a lot. The former administration was by far more professional than the current one which is handled by the niece (administrator and janitor at the same time) and brother of a handcraft artesian who lives in Portugal. They have no training in the hospitality field, so do not expect any professional response if you have a problem with your reservation, your belongings being stolen from the kitchen or a violent guest who was threatening people, as it happened to me. The hotel is worth it only if you are able to get the room located at the top of building which is pretty, full of light, and has no humidity although it has problems with the plumbing.
During the year-long stay in 2021, I saw guests having heated discussions with the administration about their reservations until finally it happened to me on my last visit in which I did not stay. I talked to them on the phone from the USA, precisely because I knew you cannot trust them with the reservation through the booking system. When I arrived, on 09-Nov-22, the room we agreed about (the room at the top)was rented to a couple. "They were there before and they did not find a way to tell them that I was coming", the administrator told me. Nevertheless, when I talked to the couple, they knew me by name because the administrator had told them about me coming soon before they rented the top room to them. We thought the explanation was that they were getting $20 per day with the couple in that room instead of just $10 with me only. I cannot deal with lies, especially when I am planning a trip. That was the last time I was there (09-Nov-22) That room is not worth all the inconvenience. If you need more details, you are welcome to contact me.

Great stay

We had a great stay at the place! The room was large and clean with a balcony. The kitchen was perfect, had everything we needed to cook. Beautiful rooftop views!
The hostel is about 10 min walk to main plaza.

Hostel Chasqui

We stayed two nights in Hostel Chasqui. It was pleasant and comfortable - especially the beds! They kitchen is large and very tidy. Rooms are clean. Our room had a balcony and there was a rooftop where you could see the whole town. Unfortunstely it rained most of the time we were so we were unable to put it to good use.
Otavalo is a lovely town.

Friendly staff, Charming hostal

I was only able to spend one night in Otavalo. Upon arrival to Hostal Chasqui I was pleasantly greeted by Roberto who was very friendly and spoke in both English and Spanish. He showed me two different options for rooms. He also spent some time orienting me around otavalo with a clearly labelled map and great suggestions :)
