Fantastic location and host

We recently stayed three nights at El Vaquero and could not have been happier. It’s an easy walk down from the main road (or back up to catch various buses), and oh-so-quiet at night. The double room itself was small and rustic, as expected, but it had a very comfortable bed, nice warm blankets, hammocks right outside the door, and a gorgeous view of the canyon. The grounds are green and lush, the sauna is warm and inviting, the resident dog and llama and guanaco are all charming, the meals are lovingly prepared, the atmosphere is convivial, and the hosts go above and beyond to make sure you feel at home. Really, truly, a highlight of our trip to Ecuador. We could have spent a month here.

Great place! Clean and warm with wonderful hosts!

Stayed here during out Quilotoa Loop hike. Wonderful accommodations including a eucalyptus Swedish shower. We were wet, muddy and tired and the host brought us dry crocs and placed a roaring fire in the stove to warm us, along with hot tea and a wonderful dinner. Beds were comfortable and clean as was the shower. Also, the trail is right next to the hostel! Would stay here again for sure!!

Good starting point for Quilotoa Loop

We had two nights in the beautifully located hotel surrounded by nature.
Of particular note is the incredibly warm hospitality! Thank you very much.
Dinner and breakfast were delicious. The sauna and steam room are heated with fire (for an additional $3 per person). After a strenuous trek, just the thing.
Perfect starting point for the Quilotoa Loop. Trek starts right behind the house.

Quiet, caring place, ideal for replenishing strength

Very well maintained hotel. We stayed the night before we set out on the route to Kilotoa. The rooms are good. The most enjoyable is how calm and careful they are. As soon as we arrived they put a wood stove for us and prepared an orange cinnamon to warm up. The family that carries it is very careful and share their home. At the end of dinner we were invited to spend time on fire with another traveler doing the route. Ah! The four blankets they put on the bed to sleep really catch you!!!

Perfect place to stay whilst on the loop trek

Brilliant place to stay in Chugchilan. It’s located just outside the village on a very quiet small road and is set back from it in its own gardens. The rooms are really well finished and some offer lovely views looking towards the crater of Quilatoa.
The owner Victor is very friendly and accommodating, the food is very good, hot water in the shower, comfortable bed, really can’t think of any negatives. Would use again if I ever did the loop trek again
