What truly made the stay special was the host. She regularly checked in to make sure we were doing well. It felt like staying somewhere where the host truly cares about the guests.
We would happily return.

Run down, moldy building, hostile hosts
I don’t understand how they have such good reviews. It is way overpriced, in a run down building, has mold, has almost no water pressure, has no amenities, no service, no views, and poor quality linens.
The owners also seemed hostile towards me as an American tourist dating a Croatian, which was something I faced a couple other places also.
When I got to Green Park Rooms, I immediately knew I was allergic. I have mold allergies so I would never book an old place next to the ocean, but my ex booked it without asking me.
When I got there, it was immediately difficult for me to breathe, even with the windows open. There wasn’t enough water pressure on hot for me to even wash my hair.
Because my ex is overly sensitive, I tried to step outside and call the owner behind his back to see if we could get out of the reservation and leave because I figured there was no point in making a fuss if we couldn’t. The owner was indignant and yelling on the phone. Obviously no real hotel management would ever act like this.
He walked up, heard me, and walked back to the room. He said I could come back there and talk. But I could not go back without first getting allergy medication. I had already been in there for too long and my allergies and asthma were acting up.
He had only given me a room key, and I hadn’t thought to ask him how to get back in because we were supposed to be going out to dinner together. I told him the hotel would be fine as soon as I got meds and to please come out to dinner.
Then he texted me:
“I talked with the owner. I think it would be best if you come get your things and leave if you don’t like it here.”
But I had just said it would be fine. The owner had come by to check on what the problem was. Whatever she said to him caused him to change his tone towards me completely.
“I don’t need this drama right now, and I don’t have the mental capacity to deal with it.”
He had never texted me that harshly before. He then refused to go to dinner, and when I offered to bring him dinner, he told me “no.” I asked him where he thought I could go, and he didn’t respond, so I was on my own to get allergy meds and dinner.
When I got back, I saw only the key pad but I didn’t have a combination and had no idea how to get in. I called my ex repeatedly. I called the owner repeatedly. Eventually, I dialed up every single unit in the building. One answered, but they didn’t speak English and didn’t let me in.
I waited for 1 hour, and then, distressed after a long day of traveling, and without a credit card or passport, I went to Hotel Briig nearby. It was light years nicer, had a pool, breakfast, views, luxury finishes, phenomenal service, and thankfully took Apple Pay.
At 3 am, he texted me that he had fallen asleep, the room key works on the key pad, and that the owner was supposed to answer 24/7 so he thought I would be able to get in.
The next morning, I grabbed my stuff while my ex was sleeping. I wish I’d woken him up because I would never see him again.
I texted him inviting him to breakfast at my hotel where we could talk about what had happened. He refused and said he’d be staying with his parents instead of me the last night but that I could stay at the hotel he’d booked for us in Zagreb. I tried to call him and he didn’t pick up.
I then went to Green Park Rooms to find him, but he wasn’t there. Upset that this had all happened because of the place and its over and thinking I was getting broken up with, I threw pillows out the window and into the bushes.
I am not saying what I did was okay, but they were just pillows, and the pillows were just fine. Nothing was damaged. Imagine the sorts of things drunk people do to hotel rooms on vacation. There’s a reason you put down a deposit.
The owners of Green Park thought throwing mere pillows was grounds for calling the police. They called my ex, threatening to call the police, causing him to then freak out at me while I was trying to pack and get checked out of Briig.
Threatening to call the police on a guest who threw pillows is completely ridiculous and out of hand. Want to get arrested on vacation? Stay here I guess. I have never been arrested in my life. Are there no actual criminals to worry about in Croatia?
Once I was threatened with police, I got upset and texted my ex that he treated badly and also let other people treat me badly. Why wasn’t he standing up for me?
He then responded that he “felt unsafe” and never wanted to see me again. He then recorded me on a phone call while he called me “insane and physically dangerous” because I’d thrown pillows and refused to talk to me in person or answer any questions.
How did this incident spiral so out of hand? I didn’t like the hotel? What did the owners say to him? How was throwing pillows spun so out of proportion? They were pillows.
I never got closure. I never got answers. It’s possible the owners aren’t to blame for my boyfriend’s behavior, but I seriously doubt that he would have told me to get my things and leave or claimed I was dangerous without their interventions and threats to call police over pillows.
In the past, whenever a hotel has had mold or anything I was allergic to, I’ve been given a better room or let out of my reservation, but because this was just a rooms rental place, it was probably foolish to even ask. This is why I do not recommend ever staying in a place like this if you can afford something better or if you have any sort of allergies.
I also think you do not want to trust these people to not make rash, insane judgments about when police should be involved.
