Tranquility at last!

I was here on a birding trip, unfortunately coinciding with high tourist season. My stay here was a tranquil and refreshing break from the craziness of Dalmatia, which I was fleeing. The breakfast was the best of any breakfast that I had during a three-week trip. I extended my stay here to a second night, because there were good birding sites within easy reach. I enjoyed dining at Porto Riko, a four-minute walk down the road to the port. The pool looked wonderful; many other guests were using it, but I skipped that, as I usually do during birding trips. I noticed that one other guest griped about having found a scorpion in the room. I would love to have found one--I have seen very few of them in the wild! Oh, well, one cannot have everything.

Does not meet expectations

Located about 500 meters from the beach and 200 meters from the port. There is a restaurant in the village. Krnica is about 3 km away, there is a small supermarket.
The rooms are clean but unfortunately do not have a refrigerator. There is no possibility to cool drinks in the hotel.
Breakfast is disappointing. The tables are not set and there is a lack of cleanliness. The tablecloths and chairs are stained. The coffee machine is quite dirty and the coffee almost inedible. Salt and pepper shakers are pretty crusty. This does not contribute to a feel-good atmosphere. The hospitality also leaves something to be desired. The welcome is missing, the joy of the guest's presence is absent.

Out of Time

Hotel Carmen may exude charm, with its pretty pool and nice surroundings. Its biggest joker is that the small port of Krnica is a rare idyll. Here real fishing boats are close together with recreational boats. For a swim we go out of town, to a scenic beach. The rooms at the hotel are tiny. Treat yourself to at least one balcony room with a view of the water.
Do not book at the original price! For this amount you get beautiful apartments in the surrounding villages. And they don't always have to drive up and down the serpentines and can stock up in several restaurants. There is only one Konoba in the harbour itself.
If they like it very simple and very quiet, and try to avoid any hustle and bustle, then consider this accommodation. Not otherwise!

Very bad

Initially very friendly, in hindsight even too friendly, in the end they behaved badly when it came time to pay, not respecting the terms imposed by booking who then obviously refunded us. In the exchange of messages they also invented things that never happened, therefore also liars. The structure needs to be completely revised, in the 90s it was certainly welcoming, but no longer. Pool and exteriors left to their own devices, poor cleaning of both the pool and the sunbeds, wooden platforms and broken chairs, rooms with shower cubicles and broken handles etc...certainly at that price these are unacceptable things. Two star place if it goes well. TO AVOID!

Tranquil Setting

We spent a couple of very relaxing days at this hotel. The pool was lovely and although there was only one restaurant nearby the food was very good. The peace and tranquility of this hotel makes up for anything. We followed this stay with stays in Opatija and then Fanzana but missed the peacefulness that this hotel offers. O.K the WIFI wasn't brilliant and the rooms are basic but they were clean and Carmen offers a lovely breakfast.
