Next best to the JW

I stayed at The Douglas in a King Bed room for 2 nights for work, and it was by far my favourite hotel that is within my company policy.
Loves:
- great design, loved the leather bench and big window (I had a peekaboo view of False Creek)
- huge shower stall, lovely Aesop products
- complimentary access to awesome gym at JWMarriott Parq, next door (can access without going outdoors)
- very friendly and helpful front desk and housekeeping staff
- a few minutes walk to False Creek sea wall and under 10 mins walk to Yaletown bars and restaurants
- Nespresso machine in the room
- larger safe that fits a laptop
Could be improved:
- Closet only 1.5 feet wide

Nightclub masquerading as a hotel - shame on them

Stayed here on a Friday night - our room 886 was right above the nightclub in the lobby . Loud music was thumping into our room until 3 am. I started my complaints after midnight with no resolution- at first I was offered points but specifically told multiple times there was no room available to switch too at either the Douglas or its neighbor hotel the JW Marriott ( both Bonvoy properties) . Exasperated I asked for earplugs which surprisingly they said they had but didn’t send . 20 minutes later with no earplugs I was irate and called back threatening to call the Vancouver noise ordinance police line - then I was transferred to the night manager who again offered earplugs and to comp the room. I paid over $1000 Canadian dollars for the room - I didn’t want my money back - I wanted them to move me or turn the music down. I was told they have no control over the nightclub ( what kind of money they must be making to have it on premises though?!) and essentially nothing changed. My family and I had the worst night sleep ( if you can call it that) of our lives in a very expensive hotel room.
The kicker was the next morning when we met other families on our floor who suffered the same indignity - some of whom were offered Marriott points or to switch rooms. The front desk staff revealed this is a chronic issue- happens every weekend and I guess they make more money torturing guests whose rooms are above the nightclub and then buying them off with points or paying for their rooms versus actually addressing the issue. I am so disgusted with whomever runs this hotel and continues this deceptive practice. Shame on them . The irony is they offered us to “ stay on the 10th floor” if we ever came back. Seriously?!!! I will make it my mission to get this hotel reported and shut down . They have no right to be calling themselves a Marriott when they treat guests this way every weekend. Avoid at all costs.

The check-in staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a quiet room since we are sensitive to noise. She was able to get us a room even with an early check-in. When we mentioned it was our anniversary, they brought us champagne and a nice charcuterie board. Very walkable area too.

Check was a breeze, they gave us water upon arrival. They were so cheerful and helpful. Rooms were comfortable and nice. Definately would stay again.
