Forced To Leave Accommodation Early by Hostile Owner

Under any circumstance, do not come to this motel. The owner of the motel initiated a hostile dispute with me and my family with minor children. As I inquired about compensation for the issues in our unit, the owner refused to acknowledge the responsibility of these issues and made the excuse that we were the type of people to look for something to pick at or break something to get money from them. The issues are addressed in the photos in this review. I would add a video of the altercation if Trip Advisor allowed videos. Granted, some of the issues were fixed by the owner's son named Shiv, however, the owner himself started to raise his voice as we continued to speak of our concerns of the unit itself. Instead of accommodating and acknowledging our concerns as paying customers, which acknowledging is the least the owner can do. The owner started to raise his voice especially when my mother and wife spoke, which showed he did not like to argue with women. I distinctly remember the owner yelling at my wife "YOU DO NOT WANT TO MAKE ME ANGRY". My father and I had to step in and defend our family. The owner and his colleague started to argue and yell at me and my family and told us SPECIFICALLY: "you can leave the property and don't come to me in the morning asking for a discount or refund". When his son came to hold them back, he raised his hand up as if he were to swing a slap/punch at me. He specifically pointed at me when that happened. As the argument was happening, we had finished packing and wanted to record the room and the situation for documentation. The owner noticed cameras were out and started bolting toward my wife who was recording. I came to defend her and the colleague started to touch me. And to defend myself and my family, my dad and I had told them firmly to not go near anyone. The owner ended up calling the police around 12am at night. We waited for the cops to come and OPP had arrived around 1am. The cops took our statements and let me and my family leave in peace. The police were very polite and apologetic of the situation. Due to the disrespect and humiliation from the owner we cut our trip short and left around 1:30am on July 5th to drive 4 hours back to Toronto and cancel our Tobermory Boat Cruise the next day. I had just spoke to Hotels.com where we had booked this right before making this review. They called the motel and asked for compensation and to no surprise they took our money. They refused to refund our remaining night because we did not leave before 9:30pm according to their "policy". It goes to show how greedy, uncivil, and disrespectful they are as people. Never go to this place.

PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING

I initially reserved two rooms and received a confirmation for one room described as a "family-sized" accommodation. Due to limited availability in the area during a peak travel period, it was not possible to secure an additional room at the property or alternative accommodations elsewhere.
The reservation was for a two-night stay.
The property was advertised as an inn; however, upon arrival, it was clearly a motel. During our stay, the following conditions were observed:
* Yellow stains were present on the bed linens and towels.
* No hand soap was provided in the washroom.
* The room contained two queen beds and two pull-out sofa beds. When the sofa beds were fully extended, the available floor space appeared insufficient to comfortably accommodate the advertised occupancy. We had called the “Inn” in advance and asked if it would accommodate eight people and they confirmed.
* A smoke alarm was not observed in the room.
* Electrical receptacles appeared to have exposed openings.
* At the entrance to the unit, an exterior water spout was continuously discharging water. A bucket had been placed beneath the leak but was overflowing, resulting in standing water at the entrance to the room and a saturated entry way.
* Upon entering the room, there was a noticeable odour consistent with dampness or mould.
On the second evening of our stay, at approximately 8:45 p.m., the shower in the room stopped working. The issue was reported to an employee on site, who contacted the owner's son for assistance. The shower was restored to working order at approximately 9:45 p.m.
During the same interaction, we also advised staff of the ongoing leak from the exterior water spout. Repair efforts on the exterior leak began at approximately 10:45 p.m by the owner himself and a colleague.
Following these events, we expressed concerns regarding the inconveniences experienced during our stay and requested that the owner consider an adjustment to the charges. We had asked for a discount for the stay as opposed to a full refund. In response, the owner yelled at us to leave the premises (between 10:45 PM and 11:00 PM) and stated that the room would be reset and rented to another guest. We were also told not to return the following day to request a refund. We were told that “people like us that book motels are always looking for a discount.”
While trying to repair the leak, the owner and the colleague made the leak worse. Water extended beyond the immediate entrance to our room and spread across portions of the parking lot and toward neighbouring units.
At approximately 11:00 p.m., we decided to vacate the property after being told to leave. While packing our belongings, we recorded video footage of the condition of the premises and the room at the time of our departure for documentation purposes. During this time, the owner lunged at me and yelled at me to stop recording. The interaction escalated, and the owner contacted the Ontario Provincial Police. Officers attended the property; however, no further action was taken at that time.
We left the premises around 1:00 a.m. to begin our 4-hour-long drive back to Toronto. We ended up having to cancel our $600 Flower Pot Island Cruise the following day.
Disgusting experience at this place. Book at your own risk.

Do not even try

Please save yourself from headache and lost $$$. We did not appreciated the accommodation here. It was the worst experience my family ever had in Tobermory.

WOMEN AVOID THIS PLACE

Picture this: You check into a place that calls itself an “inn.” Instead, you’re greeted by dirty sheets, dirty towels, no soap, screaming neighbouring guests, a strong mildew smell, pests, a leaking faucet overflowing onto the floor, and a broken shower.
Now imagine calmly asking for a discount because your room wasn’t even fit for guests—only to be yelled at, told to “shut up” because you’re a woman raising serious issues, and only for THE OWNER to raise their hand at you in an attempt to intimidate you to the point that police had to be called.
Hospitality shouldn’t look like this. Book somewhere else.

I entered in and found out that ants were creeping on the bed.
The small wardrobe and lamb stand were the habitat for ants.
The AC in the room was malfunctioning, I reported the they brought a fan.
In fact, I had the poorest hospitality all of my life.
