A great experience in the Grand Hotel
I was looking for a hotel offering Christmas dinner.
I contacted, I was taken care of by the friendly, attentive Emanuela.
We stayed 4 days, we slept 3 nights, when I arrived I was already surprised by something, which we do not see anymore even in hotels in Europe, the Luggager, the one who takes his bags and takes him to his room. Excellent room, spacious, clean, with TV, Wi-Fi signal, large bathroom, great shower, the hotel went through a renovation, reopened in 2011, all new and beautiful. I will stay due photo of breakfast, but I guarantee to you, very good, full of bread, cakes, mixed eggs, cold, yogurt, juices, among other things. The dinner started at 7:00 p.m. on the 24th, I was enchanted, tables were clean, decorated, a variety of dishes for all tastes, Chester, Bacon, Tender, Salmon, almond rice, desserts, soft drinks, juices, beer, finally, I was very happy. Emanuela there at all times, giving attention and affection to everyone, attentive staff, friendly. Note 10. The hotel is in the center, close to everything, Cathedral, Crystal Palace, Tereza street, excellent commerce. Thanks Grand Hotel, for a Christmas yet, that outside of home with so much affection, you have no idea, how much it warms the heart, especially for those who feel too much the losses of life. Thank you all. May 2026 be very successful!

The staff was super helpful and the hotel was very clean and beautiful. The breakfast was excellent. Valet parking was included and was very convenient. The location was right in downtown and had easy access to food, shopping, and tourist spots.

It may even be damaged, but it lacks a lot of hospitality
Only the facade and lobby retain the elements of the hotel's imposing centenary past, the rooms have all been renovated and modernized. The building is demolished, it is the only 4* of Petrópolis and the location is privileged for those who want to discover the imperial city on foot.
As other guests here well testify, the photos look retouched to leave the rooms larger and cooler than they really are.
There is no room to open bags, the closet is small for two people and the bathroom is tiny: a slightly wider person even passes through the door to take a shower. The exhaust is very noisy, besides.
Speaking of noise, it is useless to say that the hotel is broken and that the windows cannot be changed: the windows, however, can, because those who have very light sleep suffer from the noise coming from outside.
Unlike the entire hotel universe, where 95% of the hostels ask that the guest put the card in the door when they do not want to clean up, at GHP only clean up the room if the plaque is hanging, which is only discovered after 16:00. And the attitude of the hotel when charged about it is blaze, transferring the guilt to the guest for not reading the card, instead of apologizing and showing willingness to learn from the rest of the hotel world. That's called arrogance.
The internet is good when it works, sometimes you have to log in more than once a day.
The air conditioner is probably the one that works best in every hotel, very powerful and cooling the environment in 5min.
Breakfast is very disappointing for a saying 4*; there are much simpler and costing half the daily guesthouses with much more variety, better presentation and taste. The juices are hidden and are watery, the apple pie was strawberry jelly and unbearably sweet, whole fruits only and embalsamed in plastic film!
Even with a machine of a renowned brand of coffee, the drink is simply untouchable - are they using the brand grains or the machine is not in need of urgent repairs or even cleaning?? Nobody deserves to start their day with bad coffee, right?
The reception is pleasant but quite cold and distant, it seems that they do a favor by serving him; as I said in the title, there is a lack of sincere hospitality and flexibility.
I made my reservation by Booking and had a problem with the rental car (electric panel), not being able to arrive on the start date of the fully paid reservation and informing the hotel more than 24 in advance. The unit simply refused to return the unused diary and, when confronted, made the only gesture of offering an upgrade to a room as squeezed as the reserved one and only for the sake of the view.
As said in other reviews here, it's all very crowded and the head of reception and reservations seem to use armor instead of smiles: hotel is not a bank, simple as that!
Finally the question of parking, which is 600m from the hotel and a valet needs to take the car there and bring it back upon request, which takes a minimum of 20min and no less than that - if you are in a hurry to leave, include half an hour in your planning to have your vehicle!
According to my experience, which is not small, the hotel does not deserve the 4 star category and needs to be urgently reduced to suit what is actually offered; or that, or change the presentation and attitude with the customer and show that they like to serve and be hospitable.
The basic, the elementary they fulfill; however, hospitality is much more than that!

According to the Brazilian Federal Law 8.069/1990, minors under 18 years of age cannot check into hotels unless they are accompanied by their parents or a designated adult. If the minor is accompanied by an adult other than his parents, it will be necessary to present a written authorisation for the minor to check into the hotel.
