Welcoming staff and accomodation

Really enjoyed our stay at this hostel. Staff were so friendly and helpful and even hosted a dinner party for us where they cooked a local dish for us to try. Big kitchen with good facilities and the communal area was nice. Rooms clean and secure. Very close to beached praia dos anjos and praia do fondo and very near to a supermarket. Nice breakfasts!

Ruim

rooms have windows agains a wall except for room 3 that points to a barking dog at Night. The new owner decided to close the big kitchen just for staf and we have to use an extremely tiny kitchen with no windows where everything smells like humidity. Near the kitchen there are few sofas that smell lile they haven't been cleaned up for years. To end up, today big roach welcomed us today when we entered the kitche to prepare lunch. Additionally when we asked for the owner they say "she is in cancun" so there is no way out of this. GO AMYWHERE BUT HERE! !!!

Worst hostel of my life

This was the worst hostel I ever stayed in. The staff was not very interested to help, the showers weren't working, the water was cold and the bathroom wasn't clean. The kitchen was a mess too and I don't even think the sheets of the beds were changed.. As for safety, I wasn't given a key, and the room wasn't locked so pretty much anybody/everybody could come in. Thankfully, there were big drawers where you could fit your luggage, when the lock wasn't broken.. Anyway, I was planning to stay there for 2 nights but I just gave up and stayed one instead.

Nice and friendly but not clean

We stayed here for a full week, three people including one couple - the couple shared a room and the third friend slept in the dorm.
The first room we were offered smelled of mold and we could hardly breathe, but thankfully there was another room available that was better so we got to switch without much trouble :)
The hostel itself has a good location, right next to the bus station and easy to reach all parts of town by foot. Helpful and friendly staff who will recommend sights and activities. Hostel has a nice porch to hang out on and a big kitchen.
If you are concerned about cleanliness this may not be the place for you as neither the room nor dorm nor any of the bathrooms were cleaned once in our week-long stay (not toilet paper refill or waste basket emptying), but if you are a couple/group looking for a cheap private room and you can deal with the unclean-ness this place is a good value for your money.
The dorm however is not very cheap compared to other places, so if you plan on staying in a dorm you might want to choose another hostel.

Good staff, but structure and cleansing need to improve

Arraial Central Hostel is a cheap option to stay at this beautiful beach town off Rio. Not too big, but not tiny either. There's free wi-fi, computer with internet, a kitchen with fridge to use, and breakfast is simple but honest. The staff are very friendly, helpful and resourceful, and they are well informed about the town, services and options around (food, transportation etc.). The social environment is very good, the lounge is large and comfy, the furniture is beautiful, there's a balcony to chill out and chat (not to mention smoking, although I don't support it). Now for the cons: reception is closed from 10pm to 8am, which leaves up to guests to inform other guests coming late about it; there are not many bedrooms, and those downstairs don't have any air conditioning; and the location is on top of a veeeeery steep slope, which makes it quite hard for people with walking problems, or alike, to reach there. Also, hygiene and cleansing are an issue to be dealt. I stayed there for 2 nights and saw three cockroaches inside the hostel. Not a pleasant surprise.
