Truly Amazing
My wife and I stayed here, on the weekend of the Belgian Formula 1 weekend at the end of August, and to be honest we didn't want to leave. My wife had booked the stay here, along with the racing tickets, and a trip and stay over in Brussels as a surprise 40th birthday for (my 40th) for the both of us. As it was a surprise, I had no idea this is where we were staying, so I couldn't do my usual investigation work on tripadvisor and check out the reviews prior to staying. To be honest, as I am writing this I still haven't so please take all I say as untainted.
From the moment we arrived, and met the wonderful Marlene, I fell in love with this place.
The Matin Tranquille is set in the Augustus Donnay (I really hope I have typed that right) area of Liege, 1.6km on the outskirts. It is in a truly fantastic location, overlooking the city centre, with nearby parks, walks and restaurants.
The accommodation from the outside, looks very quaint and welcoming, in a quiet cobble stoned street. On entering, and once you have been greeted by Marlene, you get a very nice tour of this impeccable place, and it truly is impeccable. It's clean, homely and what I can only describe a warm and welcoming.
We stayed in the garden room on the first floor. The garden room has an extremely comfortable king size bed, en-suite, sitting room and double doors that look out on to the garden (hence the name). It was wonderfully decorated and spotlessly clean and very very comfortable.
Ground floor is the dinning room, where Marlene services up the most delicious continental breakfast known to man. Homemade muffins, delicious cheeses, homemade jams and syrups and, my most favourite, beer pancakes........ seriously, these are very good indeed.
The Matin Tranquille is also handy for the local train station, which is only a short 10 minute walk away, from where you can get into the main station in 10 minutes and transfer to, well pretty much anywhere you want; Brussels, Paris, Luxembourg etc....
As I stated before, I haven't read any previous reviews on this place, and after I post this, I will take the time to do so, but please take it from me, if you are reading these reviews thinking of booking somewhere in Liege for a break then this is the place for you. You really will not be disappointed...... Unless you're a Kardashian or just like a bit moan. Marlene is fantastic, the Matin Tranquille is superb and Liege is a wonderful place.
We are already planning a trip back here for next year's Grand Prix.

Boutique B&B but a climb uphill back to it!
We had the garden room on the first floor which was more like a small apartment. The bedroom had a small lounge with a kitchenette and from there there was the bathroom. All the facilities where well kept, clean and tidy.
The town is a pleasant downhill walk and we found a few bars and a restaurant to have a pleasant evening meal. However the walk but is uphill and makes for an interesting journey back! Be warned.
In the morning there was no hot water, apparently there was a fault and the owner declined to take a payment for the room from us. This was a very kind gesture and in the end we came to a compromise where we payed towards our stay with her agreement.
A very charming B&B and worth a stay as long as you don't mind the walk back up hill.

The plumber could come in the afternoon and fix the minor technical problem.
Again all my excuses for the cold shower in the morning :(
Kind regards,
Marlène
